Hey Mamas,
How can you tell if your toddler has a vision problem. Heres the thing, my 21 month old looks at things kinda funny. He will hold things far away from himself and tilt his head to look at it. It seems he is doing this with everything. He also turns his eyes in when looking down.The speech therapists that has been working with him suggests getting his eyes checked. Has anyone else had experience with this?

My daughter, when she was three, had eye surgery. Her right eye wanted to turn in. A eye muscle was clipped and she wore glasses until she was 12 years old. I think that you need to have his eyes checked. It will be harder on you then it will be on him. It was with me, when my daughter had her surgery.

My son is 3 years old and he is wearing glasses now. His left eye started turning in toward his nose when he would look at things and so I went to a pediatric opthamologist (which I recommend going to)because they deal with kids eyes. My pediatrician recommened one for me and I am glad that we took him. He was severe far sided. They have such great technology now that they can check and see if he needs glasses. If he is doing the things that you said then I would get him checked out b/c if he doesn't need glasses at least you had it checked out! Good luck. It took my son 2 days to get used to the glasses and now he is the one that tells me that he needs to put them on!
My now 12 year old starting wearing glasses around that age. She could not see close up and had to hold things pretty far away for her to get things.

I would definitely take him to get his eyes checked. My daughter is 5 and started wearing glasses at age 3. She had to get REALLY close to things to see them. She would color and lean over so close to the paper. She's adopted from China - so, I initially thought it was just a bad habit. We took her to the eye doctor and it turned out that she is extremely nearsighted. She has adjusted great to her glasses and wears them all the time (she knows that she cannot see clearly without them). We see Dr. Stephen Lipsky at Thomas Eye Peds. His office is near St. Joseph's. Do get his eyes checked. My son did the sam ething and needed glasses very badly. If you liv ein ATl go to the Thomas Eye group by Scottish Rite. They are wonderful and will take the time to do all tests necessary.

I agree with the other moms. You definitely should take him to get his eyes checked out. I have 9 yr old twins and one has been in glasses since he was 2. We also noticed a slight turn in of the eye and he definitely needed glasses. They have continued to work with him on patch therapy etc. and he is doing wonderfully and has vision has improved over the last 7 yrs. I highly recommend Eye Specialists of Atlanta. They are a pediatric opthalmalogist (sp?) group who have several office, the main one being next to Northside/Children's Healthcare. We personally see Dr. Marc Greenberg. It's a long way to drive,but it has been well worth it for my son & their tools/technology are kid friendly and kid specific. Hope this helps and good luck.
My pediatrician did a hearing and vision test on my daughter. The test had probes stuck to her head and a tv set. It was black fuzzy and then a giraffe would pop up then black fuzzy and a dinosaur would pop up. They had one eye covered and tested both eye's. The probes measured brain waves when stimulating each eye. Well she failed. But the pediatrician said a lot of kids fail it and pass one at the eye Dr.
