Viral Rash

My 2 year old son has a rash that, through speaking with a triage nurse, we have determined is likely a viral rash resulting from the cold he's been battling over the past week. My concern is that I have been planning to get together with some friends this evening that are also mothers of young children. The children will not be with us, but I'm curious if this is something I need to be concerned about passing onto the other children through their mothers (note: I am not sick, nor do I have a rash). Is that possible? No one I call can seem to answer my question, I have a call in to the hotline for my insurance, but I have to wait for a call back. In the meantime, maybe you mommies have some sage advice to offer?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies. I heard back from the nurse hotline, and she let me know that as long as I followed normal precautions like hand washing, it should be fine, and that he is not likely contagious any longer because his fever is gone.

A viral rash may or may not be contagious; those that are contagious are spread through the air or by direct contact. If he will not be there I think it is safe for you to be there.

Change your clothes and wash you hands just before you leave and I wouldn't worry to much after that!

If you're not sick, I don't think you have to worry about passing anything. Have fun tonight.

My kids had that when younger, whenever they were getting over a cold or fever.
It is the virus leaving the body. Usually occurs at the end phase of the cold.
It can take awhile to go away. As far as my kids when they had that, it was not contagious. But you might want to call the Nurse line or your Pediatrician, to ask them about that.

Or, just Google Search it.

Hi S.,

Viruses are tricky things. Chicken Pox is most contagious before the breakout.....Hand, Foot and Mouth disease is contagious throughout the symptoms....Most childhood viruses don't spread to healthy adults but in a weakened state, it can be passed quickly. You could already be contagious without knowing it. I would stay home......

God bless,
M.
