Hi Liz,
I have 4 boys, gripe water worked on a couple and did not work on a couple. I was given gripe water when I was a child and my mom says it worked on me. There is no harm in trying it, as it is not harmful.
All the best

I've used Gripe Water when my son was only a few weeks old and on. It works wonders! It would work within a matter of minutes with him. You can find it at Jamaican or Indian stores. If you can find Woodwards Gripe water, I think that works the best. (the other brands of gripe water work too, but it always seemed like the Woodwards worked faster...and it doesn't taste bad either.) I actually make sure I always have it in the house, because my husband and I have even used it for upset stomachs.

Hi L.! We had the same trouble. Our son was very gassy and we didn't have much luck with Mylicon either. We found Gripe Water and had great results! There is one that you have to refrigerate, so I would check the box and try to get the one that does not need to be refrigerated. Little ones aren't usually used to the cold and it is also inconvenient if you want to take it with you in the diaper bag.

I would also recommend bicycling his legs (pushing his legs in toward his chest and letting him push back works well too). I hope this helps!

Hi, I tried gripe water once when my son was 6 weeks old. He wound up choking on it because the dose you need to give is so much for a little one. A paramedic told us it was only sugar water anyway and wasn't good to use. You may want to ask your pediatrician if there are any other things you could do. Maybe he isn't getting burped well enough? I'm sorry I don't have a better answer, but gripe water seems be too much liquid to give an infant.

I used it a bit when my DD was younger (she's 18 months too!) My Mom brought it from Canada for us. (It must be a "British thing", widely available there, but not here.) I think it helped, especially when she was fussy. The taste (like licorice) seemed to stop the crying quite quickly.
I guess you should follow other Mom's advice on where to get it. Good luck.

I had so much trouble with gassy babies. My second son whom I adopted at five weeks and bottle fed and my daughter I gave birth to and breast fed.
The good thing is he is getting to the 4th month mark so he will be much less gassier. I was using gripe water and it did work. Than someone told me it had alchohol in it, so I just wanted to warn you about that. Also, I don't know if you are breast feeding but if you are stay away from gassy foods if he is really irritable. If you are bottle feeding th less bubbls the better. I used to pump my baby's legs to release the gas. Lay him on his back and softly grab his thighs and push his knees up to his chest. this used to work on both my kids. Good luck

i loved, loved, loved, loved it. i was able to get it from the local health food store which was whole foods in broward but you can get them cheaper when you buy in bulk over the internet. i would purchase about 6 bottles at one time, even thou it cut into the budget, but it was worth it in s&h. i think it helped me to deal with him dealing with gas and colic. it works wonderful and it does not put them to sleep. that is the old formula from a long time ago. now everything is alcohal free. it goes in every bottle so that is another reason to buy in bulk.
www.slumbersounds.com/gripewater.htm is one place to go. just buy typing in baby's bliss gripe water that will give you tons of places to go. good luck

My son was very gassy when he was younger too. It was awful, but Mylicon usually worked for us. The gripe water made him worse. Anyways, what finally worked was giving him some solids. The gastroentologist said rice cereal makes gas worse and to use oatmeal instead. I don't know if your're breast or bottle but maybe you could try giving him a little cereal to see if it helps. It worked wonders for us. He hasn't had gas once since he started the solids. Good luck!

L.,

Gripe water was my SAVIOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My son was colicy for the first 3.5 months and I heard about Gripe water from one of the nurses at the pediatricians office.. You get it at a Whole Food store. I got mine at Nutrition Cottage in Delray on Atlantic Avenue..There different kinds but I use "Baby Bliss Gripe Water". My son uses a pacifier so I just dip his pacifier in gripe water everytime he gets really fussy and he LOVES the taste of it and immediately calms down... DEFIANTLY GET IT!!!!!! I still use it to this day (my son is almost 8 months old)... My son also has acid reflux and was very gassy... Gripe water saved my sanity! My friends would always joke that I wouldn't leave home without my gripe water for him...
DEFIANTLY GET IT!

anyway, if you're going to try gripe water, find a brand that doesn't have any alcohol or sodium bicarbonate & doesn't have charcoal...
