Vent-Hating Life Right Now, Broken Arm + Quitting Smoking = Arg!

Hi All,

I am seriously having a terrible time as of late! I broke my arm/elbow something fierce, just got my 35 staples and cast off yesterday, now I have to try to start moving it lil' by lil' and I have to quit smoking (I know this is a good thing, the timing just sucks) to help with the healing. I have been and will be taking serious amounts of pain pills, which while is great for the pain just sucks on the body and brain! I can't sleep, I hurt ALL the time and am freaking miserable! The pain pills are working but they don't take all the pain away and they told me yesterday that I can not lift anything over 1 LB for 6-10 weeks! Apparently the Dr. told my hubby after surgery that due to the nature of the break it is highly possible that I will never be back to 100% and probably won't get my full range of motion back...hubby didn't want to worry me, so he didn't tell me till right before I went to the Dr. yesterday and so I was kinda shocked when I heard...I knew I had broke it really bad (because that is what everyone kept saying in the hospital) but I kinda thought that's what they say because any 'break' would be bad...I just didn't realize how SERIOUS it was and now I am kinda depressed, to say the least! I thought some of the hardware they put in would come out but apparently only the 2 wires will come out (in 3-4 months) but the 2 plates and 12 screws will stay in forever! Ugh!

To top it all off, it's my only daughter's 3rd B-day on Friday and I had planned to throw her and my MIL a joint party (MIL's B-day is on the 7th) so my in-laws will be here on Friday and my house looks like a tornado hit! My MIL was very sweet on the phone and told me not to worry about the house and how she is so happy I didn't just cancel the party...it means a lot to her to be included and she LOVES it that her only granddaughter and her share this special connection of having their B-days so close together...I am very happy to throw this party and make it special for both of them...I just feel very over whelmed right this minute.

It sucks so bad trying to be the Mommy with only 1 hand! I am doing my very best to stay positive and upbeat for my kids. I feel useless right now! I can't even do my own hair, let alone my daughter's and apparently my hubby is lame (I love him, he's great and doing his best to help) because he can not DO a simple pony-tail to save his life!! Man, I should have taught him how a long time ago...

So hating life right now! Thanks for reading...

So What Happened?

Theresa, thanks for the giggle...I needed that! To be fair, I am not working because I can't with my arm...and the quitting smoking SO wasn't my idea...the Dr. said that smoking is bad for my healing process and hubby has latched on to that like no other and has pretty much decided I should quit...I however am having serious second thoughts...I don't think I can do it, I am all for cutting down but going cold turkey, like today (hubby left me no $ and I can not drive and SO do not want to walk to get smokes) just SUCKS!

You must be an amazing person to continue on with this party when you are suffering so much. Just recovering from surgery is a lot but knowing you have to go back for more in 3-4 months...ugh No wonder you are overwhelmed.

Is there anyway you could have the party out and not at your house?

I broke my wrist ( not even a bad break) but boy was I ever tired. Just doing a load of laundry, or even taking a shower required so much effort!

Take care of yourself. Hopefully the worst part is behind you.

Ohhhh goodness! So sorry to hear about everything you are dealing with right now!! Just know that not a single person will remember if your house is clean or not, but they will remember the joint party you threw for your daughter and MIL :)
Hang in there!!! It WILL get easier.
You're in my prayers!

SORRY! What a rough time. I just wanted to let you know that one of my very close friends had a similar situation 2 years ago. He broke his leg badly and the doctor told him that if he smoked, the healing process would take much longer. As bad as the hospitalization and recovery period sucked, it was the one thing that helped him kick his smoking. He hasn't smoked at all for 2 years now. Hopefully you can do the same :)

Don't be afraid to ask for help from your family and friends. And I am sure they will have lowered expectations as to house cleanliness and ponytails etc. Just take it easy and get better.

K, so....
You have FOUR boys? And a girl?
You work as a baker?
You're on px pain meds?
Cause you broke your arm?
You're going to have a bunch of people at your house and make the day special for your daughter and MIL (food, shopping, cleaning, cooking, etc)

And you choose NOW (??!!) to quit smoking?!

Honestly, if you do it even for one day, you should write a book about how you did it. You'll be a millionaire!!

Only thing I can say, is however 'great' your husband truly is, he will need very detailed instructions to help you out. He has no idea HOW MUCH YOU ACTUALLY DO on a daily basis. And for that you'll need patience, and a limitless sense of humor.

Good Luck to you, jeesh!

:)
