Hi everyone. I am hoping someone can help me. I am 33weeks preggos. For my son I had a c-section becuase he was breech and my water had broken. Now that i'm getting closer to my due date (8/26) my ob/gyn's are adamant that I get a repeat c-section. Of course I don't want that because it was such a painful recovery and now that I have a 15month old running around it will be much more difficult. I have expressed that to my doctors but like I said they are insistant and keep telling me that the reason that they would prefer one is because I became pregnant too soon and they are not sure if I healed properly. My question is has anyone gone throught the same thing and have you had a successful VBAC? Of course if it is a high risk for myself or my baby then I will go for the C but from all the material that I have read I see that it is possible to have a VBA sucessfully.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Fist of all I want to THANK all of the woman who responded. So I did my research and when I saw the doctor on my visit I presented all of my findings. Either way I went (VBAC or C) there are risk associated so I weighed the pros and cons and turned out the a repeat C was a little more riskier than the VBAC. I asked for a "trial of labor" and that the reason I chose Elmhurst Hospital was because they are equipped for an emergency C if I needed it. Plus I asked to let me try and if at any point either I or the baby are in distress that I would agree to the C with no hesitation. My doctor then told me he would discuss it with the other attendings. Sure enough 2 days later I recieved a call and they are going to let me try!!! I am so excited but scarred at the same time...wish me luck!

Hi L.! You should push for having a VBAC. I had one when my daughter was 21 months old and it was very successful. If you want good support on this issue, you should contact West Suburban Midwives in Oak Park and ask for Hillary or Gail. They are advocates for women and almost guarantee successful VBACs. If you want to discuss more about my experience, feel free to email me personally. ____@____.com

Good luck!

Of course it is very possible to have a successful VBAC.
I don't understand why doctors are pressuring women to have more & more c-sections but I suspect they save them time & effort. Also they get to schedule the births so avoid working 'inconvenient' hours.
Your doctor is working for you so you have every right to request services.
Documentation is important so I would have the doctor read & sign your written request for a VBAC. Make copies of the signed request & bring along to the hospital when you go into labor.
Have your boyfriend & family members act as your advocates since you will be in a vulnerable state during labor.
I never had a c-section but I used a midwife for my third birth to avoid unnecessary medical interventions.
I wish you a peaceful birth experience.

I had a successful VBAC 16 months ago. My daughter was breech so she was a scheduled C at the time. I delivered at Lutheran General, and overall they do not have many VBAC's. My OB was OK with my VBAC, although she cautioned me several times b/c the baby was measuring on the large side, and she made me aware of the risks, etc. I had also read up on VBAC and was confident, although I told my OB to let me know when/if she thought it unwise at any point. I didn't have any labor with my daughter, as she was frank breech and we did the C one week before my due date. I think that generally, it's best to wait 18 mos or more before getting pg again in order to have the most success with the VBAC, and your kids will be rather close together. If your previous C was due to any sort of complications or issues during the delivery, they generally caution against the VBAC in many cases. Either way, I hope that you are able to have a delivery that meets your expectations, whatever you and your OB decide.

I had a VBAC with my second son and was also worried about chasing a toddler around if I had another c/s. They were 24 months apart and my 1st OB said to wait at least 4 months before getting pregnant again (which you did). Sounds like they are speaking from a liability perspective and not in your (and your baby's) best interest. I would ask your OB what his/her VBAC success rate was and go from there. They should at the VERY least offer you a trial of labor if everything else is going well with the pregnancy/baby. If they think you haven't healed from your surgery then why would you want to have more surgery?! Pushing the baby out was just like taking a poop, the pregnancy is the hardest on your body in my opinion. If you do go for a VBAC, try for no interventions (i.e. no pain meds, no pitocin) because I'm sure they will use any little excuse the give you a repeat section.
