Hi me and my husband are definitely undecided on whether to have any more children. My first concern is to be able to provide financially. But I would say my biggest concern is that I do not want to have any more c-sections. My first pregancy resulted in one because I was getting induced and with the epidural my son's heart rate dropped very low. My second with my daughter was a definite must because she was in me in a tranverse lie position because the placenta was in the way. My question is does any one know the statistics of the chances of me having another c-section?
Well not getting the advice I was really looking for made me call my doctor's office and basically the chances of me having another c-section after having two already is 50/50. My doctor is very VBAC friendly and is willing to do a VBAC. I have researched VBACs and the chances of my uterus rupturing is about 1%. It will only be more of a risk if I am attempting to carry out a VBAC and it is unsuccessful and then having to go through with a c-section than having a planned c-section. Otherwise a successful VBAC will be the best on the body and for me and the baby. While I can't predict anything. I know I have nothing to lose and can try. So now I have to weigh my options. Believe me having a c-section, which is major surgery is very h*** o* the body, you can take it from me. But thanks I have some time to think and decide what is best for me and my family.

Well here is the problem with c-sections, most O.B's are more comfortable with performing them especially when you have already had one... definitely when you have had two already. The risk is high to try to give a vaginal birth after c-sections because the uterus could rupture or rip... one or the other.
I had a succeful VBAC. My first was an emergency section (my baby was breech and when my water broke she start coming out feet first- I was home alone and called 911 and was rushed to the hospital and was put under for an emergency c-section) I decided to go for a VBAC the 2nd time. I read up alot on pros and cons. I found there are risk for both. I would research what you can and talk it over with your doctor to see if you are a canidate to have a VBAC. However, not all doctors are willing to do VBAC's and you can only deliver at select hospitals. Good luck which ever way you decide to go.
My OB/GYN told me his wife had 4 children and 4 c-sections. I also have a friend who had 3 children, 3 c-sections. I think I remember my OB/GYN saying he did not recommend more than 4-5 c-sections. Speaking with your physician would be helpful also to alleviate your fears.
I don't know actual stats...you can find more info on the web. I have had 2 cesareans. I tried vbac with my 2nd, but I never went into labor and they will not induce you because the stronger contractions from being induced could make you rupture. I waited 41 weeks and still ended up with the c section. I was told I definately cannot have a vbac ever because my scar was paper thin during the delivery of my second. I do know of people who have had vbacs after 2 and they were fine. BUT, make sure you get the facts about vbacs. They are very risky and should be done at hospitals who can accomodate an emergency if you should rupture. They only have about 8 minutes to get the baby out if you rupture during delivery. If they don't, you and the baby are at serious risks!! Csections are not fun, especially the recovery. My advice if you have another one, take the drugs on a schedule and get out of the bed asap and walk the halls!! Good luck!!
