Have any of you mommas had a successful (or unsuccessful) VBAC, and if so, do you like your doctor well enough to recommend him/her? I had a c-section with the first one and really want to try for a VBAC this time.

Also, did you use a doula for your VBAC? If so, would you recommend her?

(Unfortunately, St. Luke's system is out of network for my insurance.)

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I did not have a VBAC but that was only because the doctor that I went to was not supportive of it. I went to a different doctor, Dr. Lemberger, with the 3rd and while I didn't end up delivering with her due to complications, I am pretty sure that she was more willing to do the VBAC. She is with Centerpoint. I have known lots of people who have done it, all successfully. I know there are the horror stories out there that the doctors use for scare tactics but for the most part, there is no reason you can not try the VBAC if you want too. They also tell you no more then 3 c-sections because of the risks of rupture which I have recently learned is also a scare tactic. Some of the things your doctor will consider are the reasons for the c-section with the first and how long it has been between pregnancies but usually, a VBAC is a good option with less risks then the c-section. Stick to your guns and if you find that the doctor you end up with is not supportive, change doctors.

I did not have a VBAC either but I can recommend a wonderful OB/GYN. Dr. Randy Sheridan. His group practice is in Johnson County OB/GYN located at I-35 & 75th street in Shawnee, on Frontage Road. He is a very compassionate and thorough doctor, which by the way, delivers ALL of his babies! You will not get an on-call doctor when you go into labor. You can call them to see how he feels about VBAC.

I have never had a VBAC, but I would highly recommend my OBGyn - Douglas MacFarlane at Olathe Medical Center. He's the best!

I also go to Dr. Lemberger and she was supportive of VBAC. At the time, the insurance that I had wasn't accepted at the hospital required for a VBAC. The doctor has to be within so many miles to get there quickly if there are any complications. The insurance changed by the time I was to delivered and could go to the hospital but by that time I had already accepted to have a repeat c-section. She also told me that she will not induce with a repeat c-section due to the possiblity of utrine rupture. She is located in Independence and is associated with Centerpoint. Good luck.

I had a successful VBAC in Feb 2007. My doctor is Brenden Mitchell w/Women's Care. I do know that many of the hospitals were banning them that same year. He was very much in favor of them and left the decision up to me. I only had a c-section the first time since my son was breach and had been for the last 3 months of my pregnancy. He felt like I was a good candidate for a VBAC. Here is their website:
