I havent done my own research yet, which obviously I will, but wanted to hear your thoughts and experiences on VBAC. I probably wouldnt do it because Im a chicken, but my doctor offered it to me and I thought I could give it a little consideration to avoid another c-section.

What can I do next?

I think you should research it, you should know your options that way you can make a decision that is best for you. When I had my 2nd I felt pushed into a VBAC becasue some people look down on C-Sections. I ended up needing another C-Section and I wish I has just opted for one and not let other people make me feel bad.

If you are able to do a VBAC great! My body never cooperated....No matter what anyone says...After 22 hours and no progress with my first she just wasn't going to come out on her own so I had to have a C-section. At that point they were also concerned that she had swallowed some minconium since my water was discolored so a no brainer....I wanted a VBAC with #2 but alas I didn't get the chance because he was breached...Number three was just scheduled for the C-section. So my natural plumbing got bypassed LOL! While I am less than thrilled that I went that route I have three healthy kiddos and that is what counts!

I've had three and recovered very well from C-section #2 and #3 better and faster. While I agree there are more risks with C-sections, having a vaginal birth is not without its challenges too. Some women bounce back as the earlier posts suggest and others are never quite the same...excessive tearing, pelvic floor dysfunction and incontinence...

Ultimately, If you are with a very competent physician do what is best for you and for baby.

My doctor offered one to me too. After listening to people say that it worked well for them and there's an 80% chance of it working, I finally asked my doctor if I had a 70-80% chance like what other people were saying. She told me that because of the reason I had the first one which was my daughter got stuck among a few other reason I only had a 15% chance of it being successful. She also said that there is only a high success rate if the baby from the first time was breach or something totally not related to having to have an "emergency" c-section.

Definitely talk to your doctor for sure about your chance of it being successful.

Good luck and I hope it all works out for you. I will be scheduling my second c-section for the end of February.

Your doc wouldn't suggest it if he thought that a c-section was safer, so take that into account.

If you are planning to have more children (after this one), you should consider a VBAC--the more c-sections you have the more likely you will have a problem (uterine rupture) while pregnant, as well as more likely you yourself will have problems (c-section is abdominal surgery and the more often you cut through that area, the more likely you will have complications like adhesion of organs/tissues, problems with scars, etc.) So, if you are wanting a large family, VBAC is the way to go.

Your recovery from birth is generally much better/faster after VBAC, instead of a c-section, and the complications are usually fewer.

Definitely read and do research, and trust your own heart in the decision.

I would definetly only listen to experiences from people who were in your situation and talk to your doctor. Don't bother listening to those who will try to make you feel guilty. Do what is best for your health and your babies health, and forget about the guilt brigade! Every birth is natural and every woman gets a medal, and nobody is a better mom just because their birth went according to the plan they decided upon. Best wishes for an easy delivery, and a happy healthy baby!

My first baby was breach, so I had to have a C-sec. With #2 I really really didn't want to do another section (bad experience with #1) and so I fought hard to have a VBAC. I am sooooo glad that I did! My doc was super supportive and I did great! I got my epidural, felt when it was time to push, and she was out in 20 minutes. It was a wonderful experience and I hope I'll be able to do it when we decide to have #3! Good luck and congrats on the upcoming birth!

go for a vbac! vaginal birth is soooooo much easier to recover from and it's better for baby too! (the pushing clears fluid out of the lungs, among other things)

i've had three babies, and i was up, showered, and dressed and feeling like myself after an hour or two of rest. i still took it slow but my body was done as soon as the placenta came out. compare that to recovery from surgery??

If you can (and if your doctor will let you), I'd highly recommend it. I was dead-set against having another c-section with Baby #2, so I took good care of myself and had a vaginal birth with a normal sized baby - even with gestational diabetes. And let me tell you there is simply no comparison between the two birth experiences - the VBAC was AMAZING and much easier than I expected with only 20 minutes of pushing! I was up and around with an hour or two, never needed any pain meds, could easy pick up and nurse my baby afterwards and felt really good in general. I think doctors try to scare or bully women into having repeat c-sections by bringing out words like "uterine rupture" - so I would encourage you to read the statistics and do your homework. I was comfortable in my decision and I knew my body could deliver a baby vaginally if everyone would just give me the chance to prove it. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I had a great VBAC experience! Baby #1 was vaginal, baby #2 was c-sec, and baby #3 was VBAC. My doctors were VERY supportive of my decision and it was a wonderful experience. However, I know I was a "textbook" case. I had a previous vaginal delivery, I went into labor on my own (was 3cm and my water broke by the time I got to the hospital), I am healthy, my baby is healthy, and I progressed very naturally/quickly from 3cm to 10cm. I would definitely give it a shot!

I have had 6 VBACs and wouldn't trade them for the world. I would recommend that you do your homework. Find a doctor that is supporting of it and you and that your spouse/boyfriend is on board with it too. The cause of your first c-section can be a factor in whether or not you will be able to have a VBAC. But if you can then I would say go for it. You will need to be patient though, as being induced isn't very good for you to be successful in doing a VBAC. So if you aren't willing to wait to go into labor on your own, then you probably should just go ahead with the section. I would be happy to share more of my stories if you message me. Good luck.
