I am three months away from my second scheduled c-section and with every day that passes, I feel stronger about having a VBAC. Have any of you done this? Do you have any suggestions and/or references of doctors or midwives that will do VBAC?

What can I do next?

Hi K.,

My first child was an emergency c-section, but the following two were vaginal. Dr. Theresa Bascom was my doc for #3, the first two were out of state. I had no problems what so ever, and wouldn't have done it any other way! Best of luck!

I haven't had a VBAC myself but have been a doula for three women who had successful ones. Lindsay Stephens - the midwife at Women's Health Alliance is awesome and does VBACs. You definitely want to birth at Baylor downtown if you decide to go for it.

I just read some information on this on this forum called www.welltellme.com. I of course have not experienced any kind of birth, but I found it interesting the things these women had to say. Just type in "vbac" in the search and it will bring up the topics.

Good luck to you!

Hi K.,
Well, I really looked into VBACs when I was pregnant with my second and I came across a web page that I think was intended for physicians, not normal people....but it stated it recommended that the deliveries be a minimum of 24 months apart to reduce your risk. Out of everything else I read, this is what decided it for me. My births were shy of 14 months apart, so I felt the recovery/healing time was greatly compromised. I have read that in order to do a VBAC you need to labor and deliver unmedicated so you can sense anything going on, and absolutely no inductions.

Good luck in your decision. It is tough to go against the grain, but it is a major surgery and my second c-section was worse for me than the first. I think had my deliveries been spread apart some, I would have definitely attempted the vbac.
