My DH and I have 2 beautiful children and are done having kids. We are both over 40. He has scheduled a vasectomy for December.

If your DH has had one, can you share the experience with me? How did he do after? Any complications? How long until you were able to have sex?

Any regrets?

Anything you can share would be much appreciated! TIA!!!

What can I do next?

Guess it depends on the guy, but my husband was on the couch with a bag of frozen peas for the day! Then moved slowly for the next couple. Boxer briefs helped a lot with the "support" factor. Good luck! I left him home and went out with the kids all day :)

We only wanted one child..then had a few years of miscarriages for me and testing and such. My dh had his when our daughter was just 6-8 weeks old, and he was 26 years old. I have never regretted it, but sometimes I wish she had the sibling dynamic..just every so often. Other than that, Nope, all is well!

He had no issues, other than not following the icing instructions right away..he learned and frozen anything became his friend for a bit. He was back at work after his 4 day weekend (procedure was Friday am, and he took Monday off due to the swelling from his no-ice situation! LOL..self inflicted, plus he did a manual, on his feet all day job..auto painting, back then).

By the way..best story in the world..his Dr's name was...wait for it...Dr. Hackett...say it with me..Dr. Hack-it...OMG..he almost died when I told him the Dr's name (He had asked me to get a referral from my OB..so its a place in the same medical building..LOL)

Good luck! And ice it!

It's GREAT! Minimal recovery time -only a few days -and sex was able to be resumed as soon as he felt like it -about a week after, BUT it's very important to use protection until he tests "clean" twice. He will need to provide two specimens about 3 weeks apart starting 6 weeks after the procedure to be sure he's shooting blanks! Be sure you use protection before then because my OBGYN told me she saw far too many pregnant women who were NOT happy because this advice hadn't been heeded! Sex is great -especially now that there are no worries! It only changed our sex life for the better!

My husband had his done a few years ago. Pain was not bad if he kept taking tylenol, not even T3's just tylenol. Have to be careful for 3-6 months or until you get a clean test back from the doc. I think that was the part he hated the most, the after tests to make sure its safe, he was embarrassed. I told him to have a baby and then we can talk about embarrassment!! :) Supportive undies, (tight-tighty-whiteys) and ice. Its still way less complicated then a woman getting tubes tied.

Good luck and I have no regret..

My husband says, he converted from a mini-van to a sports model. No more cargo and all for fun!! LOL

My DH had one about 13 yrs ago. It took at least 6 months for him to be "free and clear".

As long as you follow the Dr. orders, he will be fine and things will be back to normal in no time.

No regrets here.

My husband did it 3 years ago and I'm so happy he did. He was in pain for about two weeks following his but we think it's because the uriologist had trouble locating his vas deferen on the one side, and ended up having to really dig for it. However, we have been able to have carefree sex ever since and we don't have any regrets.

my husband had one done almost 13 years ago, and REGRETS beyond measure's because now we have to dish out 5000 to even TRY to have one. obviously he didn't know we'd wind up together, but the only way we can have one is for a doner (if you know what i mean)

however, the one thing i do like is there are no accidents

My hubby just had his done 1.5 weeks ago! He did really well with it. He had it done on a Thursday morning and was back to work the next day! He does computer work though so it's very laid back and no heavy lifting involved.

The day he had it done he used an ice pack and took it easy. He wore a jock strap for support for about 4 days. He said he really didn't have any pain, just a bit of soreness. He had to wait until his one week check up to be cleared to resume normal activity, including sex. He has to go back at 1 month after and 2 months after to give a sample to make sure he's shooting blanks. Like the other girls said, don't have unprotected sex until after his samples are clean because you can get pregnant.

It's too early for me to have any regrets, but we have 3 kids and I am very much at peace with our decision!

My husband hasn't had one yet, he planning on it once our second baby is here in May next year. I have been pregnant three times but this is my second baby. And no I didn't have a miscarriage, I was young and stupid back then but that's another story. I just don't like being pregnant anymore since I have been really sick with all three. So no more, and I am completely sure since I am sure the doctor will ask since we are only 22 lol.

My husband had one 2 years ago this March. It was a 20 minute procedure if that and I went in with him. He was okay that night, but pretty uncomfortbale the next couple of days. He stayed in bed and we rotated bags of frozen peas up to him...worked GREAT to help with some of the pain he was having. He was "out of commission" for maybe 10 days or so, and then we just took it slow getting back to our "normal" routine. It was definitely the right decision for us...so I'm glad he did it!

No regrets! He was uncomfortable for the weekend and had an ice pack on. After a while you have to go back with a sample to make sure he is shooting blanks. Make sure that you go to a reputable urologist. Rarely, some men get chronic long term pain down there after the vasectomy but it's rare.

Hasn't had one yet, but hubby IS planning one in the next year or so. I've heard that it's REALLY important to go back for a 6 week check-up (or however long it is) to make sure the procedure 'took'. I know a few people who've had it done and STILL ended up pregnant. Good luck :)
