Vaporizer or Humidifier?

Hello mamas, I'm looking to get a new vaporizer/humidifier and would love your input. Right now I've got a Graco Coolmist Humidifier which I don't care for for two reasons:

1. It's loud.
2. I'm finding that with our busy schedules, we're not cleaning it daily/weekly as we should and I worry about mold/bacteria.

Anybody out there have one that they love? Or know of one that's quieter and/or less "germy"?

Thanks so much!

We have a Crane one (also) - the penguin. We purchased it for this winter after having to dispose of humidifiers every year. I like that it is no filter (although you can add one). We use filtered water in it to reduce mineral buildup as suggested in the instructions. We also try not to fill it 'just right' to avoid standing water. Cleaning has not been too bad either.

It is super quiet - a little too quiet for our 3yo who liked the white noise of previous humidifiers :D

The other humidifier that was recommended for reduced cleaning needs is the Hunter Care-Free Humidifier. But those are a bit more expensive.

Good luck!

I just purchased a Crane humidifer a few months ago and I am kicking myself that I didn't by that one first!!! I purchased it as a replacement for one we had (don't remember the brand, but it was Sesame Street) and we were not happy with it - we had to replace the filter every 2 weeks and it too was loud and VERY hard to clean.

The Crane (we have Hello Kitty) is FANTASTIC!!! You don't need a filter (you can get one for it if you feel you need one) it has adjustable settings from low to high, it doubles as a night-light, is super quiet and very easy to clean! We use filtered water (from our Brita pitcher to fill it and doesn't get grimy or gross. We clean it once a week - not because it needs it, but because we just want to keep up on the maintenance. We are expecting baby #2 and I am DEFINITELY buying another Crane for the nursery!

Try a vaporizer/humidifier called Germgaurd. We bought one at Babies R Us for $50 and we love it! There are no filters to replace and it is supper quiet! It uses an ionic disc which does need to be cleaned with white vinegar and water once in a while. We have had ours a few months and I cleaned it once so far. Basically when you clean it you let it soak a litle while then use the bruch provided and wipe away and mineral build up from the water. I suppose if you used bottled or distilled water you wouldn't have mineral build up at all. We just use our tap water. It works great!

We had the Crane Coolmist humidifier and HATED it. It grew mold/bacteria very quickly and was a pain to clean. I didn't clean it once a week as I should and it got really gross after one week. We stopeed using it because all it was doing was breeding more mold and circulating it in our daughter's room. I tell everyone not to get their product.

We ended up going to Bed Bath and Beyond and got a vornado humidifier and we LOVE it. Super quiet. You can adjust the fan speed as well as the humidity output. We originially bought it for our room and have moved it to our daughters. It was a little more pricy than the crane but well worth it as it doesn't need to be cleaned once a week. Hope this helps.

We have the vicks cool mist...it does have a filter that I have had to change at least 3 times..and it is louder...but I like that...it makes the kids rooms kind of noise proof to what is going outside their room.

I have a Holmes coolmist that I found at Walmart. I cannot remember the exact model, but it is awesome! Very quiet too. The one I bought is for a medium sized room and was fairly inexpensive. Much better than the Vicks model we just threw out as it broke within one week of using it.
