I am in the market for a new vacuum and would love input from all the professional moms out there! We have two young children and three dogs! I need a vacuum that has good, strong sunction, picks up dog hair easily, and can handle being used everyday. I need to be able to purchase it at Target, Wal Mart, Costco, or vacuum store. I do not have time to order online as ours is dead! Thanks for your help!!!

What can I do next?

I have a Bissell Powerforce that I got at WalMart about three years ago. It's lightweight, easy to use and does a great job of picking up.

It's interesting to me to see how many people swear by Dyson. I used one in a daycare where I worked a few years ago and absolutely hated it. Maybe we had a "lemon" or perhaps it's just a personal preference thing.

We have a Dyson ball. LOVE IT! Picks up a ton of stuff my old vacuum never did, and is so easy to maneuver that my 5 year old can operate it.

DYSON!!! I swear up and down by them! We have a dog that sheds like nothing else, and our floors are always spotless after it has been run. My mom could not believe that we "spent the money" on such a good vacuum, and constantly told us that it was such a "waste". She used it once and told my dad that they needed to get a new one the next day! When we first got it, I purposely ran our old vacuum over the carpet and then ran the Dyson over the same carpet immediately after...oh my goodness the amount I got up with the Dyson was unreal! I hope this helps!

I will third the DYSON. I've had many vacuum cleaners in the last 25 years and the Dyson that I've had for the last year and a half is worth twice it's weight in gold. My daughter has asthma & it is appalling how much dirt the Dyson picks up in one vacuuming of the whole house...and we don't have any pets plus we take our shoes off. It's an excellent value for what it does!

We have a Dysan animal... the purple one... pricey but worth every penny. We have had it for 3 years already and it's like it's brand new and works great. We have two dogs that shed and it's just a great all-around vacuum. No bag... just vacuum and empty the canister.

We got ours at Bed Bath & Beyond. Get a 20% coupon off and go there... or check around in the ads... BBB will honor someone else's ad.

I also love the Dyson Animal. We use it every morning (literally) to vaccuum dog fur off the large area rug in our living room, where our 95-pound Great Pyrenees (LOTS of long white fur) likes to hang out. I also like that it's all-surface, so I turn the brush off and use it on the wood floors as well.

I love my Dyson. You can get the "Animal" version, but the only difference between that and the base model is the color and a few random accessories (that I hardly used, though I can see one of the revolving brush attachment would work for dogs with longer fur). Works well for cleaning up after my 2 boxers, cat, toddler, and husband. :)

I bought a Simplicity Sychrony from a vacuum store. It is the most awesome vacuum I have ever had. I have 2 boys (8.5 & 4.5 y/o), 2 cats (one is a long hair & he leaves clumps of hair everyware) & a small dog. It has no problem picking up all the clumps of cat hair. It is a bag vacuum, but I still love it more than any vacuum I have ever had. At vacuum stores they let you try all the different ones that people have traded in (& they fixed) so you can see & feel how well they work. The vacuum I have can pick up small rocks without harming it. They do have another model that can pick up larger rocks. Go to the vacuum store & try some out.

God bless!

I love love love my Roomba. You can set it to vacuum everyday at a set time. Right after you walk out the door in the morning, or in the middle of the night. the only thing you have to do is empty it every other time. It does not have strong suction, but it makes up for it in repetition i think. Get the model that is programmable.

I (like everyone else) LOVE my Dyson too! My girlfriend is also making a purchase of her first Dyson and she said Costco has them and it is the best deal around. I know the the Bed Bath and Beyond in Sacramento accepts the 20% off coupon for Dyson even though it excludes it in fine print. The great news about buying it at Costco is if you don't like it, they will take it back. You will love it and can't go wrong. I have the Animal 17 and when I vacauum I get a container of dirt everytime.

I LOVE my Dyson!! I don't know what took me so long to finally buy one. We bought ours at WalMart and it has a 5yr warranty. I know costco also sells them, but the price was the same as WalMart and with WalMart I was able to do Bill Me Later with no interest for 3 months. I will never buy another brand, Dyson is GREAT!! It has wonderful suction and is easy to maneuver. I vacuum daily. I run an in home daycare and each day I am amazed at the dirt the Dyson picks up. The canister is also very easy to dump out.

I love my Dyson! It picks up great after my dog, 2 cats (one we call a forest broom because he brings everything in with him), 2 preschoolers, and husband.
Good luck in finding the right vaccuum for your family!

I swear by Oreck. It is a great vac. We have 3 dogs and it is used almost daily. So lightweight that I don't mind pulling it out daily!

I got mine at the Oreck store. It has a 10 yr warranty and every year I take it in for a routine cleaning, check all the components and then it's ready to go another year. It has a HEPA filter as well.

I have 2 Hoovers as well that are great vac's. With the Oreck..it is so lightweight and easy I don't have to have a spare vac upstairs like I did with the hoovers.

I know people love Dysons but my mom absolutely hates hers. She said is does have good suction but it is way to heavy and difficult to manage.

Good luck.

I would definitely go with the Dyson. I purchased a Dyson Animal 2 years ago and it is hands down the best vacuum I've ever owned. I still can't believe I spent that much $$ on a vacuum but with a teenage son, cat and two dogs I have never regretted the purchase.

I've had my Windsor upright for almost 20 years and it's still going strong. It is janitorial grade and used by many professionals in that field. Purchase it at a janitorial supply house. I believe JC Paper also carries them (corp office in Fremont). I know I get my replacement HEPPA filters there. By the way, we have a Siberian who sheds daily, especially in spring. One quick pass and all hair is gone.

Well Dyson seems the hands down winner here but I did not want to pay that much. I bought a silly $50 Dirt Devil at Target and I love it! It is still relatively new (a couple of months) but so far it beats out my $300 Hoover that was a piece of #&!*. I have spent so much money on vacuum cleaners over the years so I decided to go cheap and see what happens. So far so good!

I just bought a Bissell Health Home Vacuum yesterday. I haven't tried it yet but I did tons of research and found that this was equally as good as the Dyson and half the price.
