That's funny, I was using mine yesterday and thinking I would recommend it to others if anyone sent out an email asking. I have a Hoover Mach 3 12 amp in a pretty blue color which I've had for about 6 months now. The things I like is that it didn't cost a huge amount, it picks up great and it's not too heavy which is really good for my back problems. I found it at my local Walmart. Hope you get several replys so you can consider all. Blessings, N.

Not that you have't heard it already but... the DYSON. I love mine. If you use the 20% coupon from Bed Bath & Beyond you can save like $80. It's still pricey but it was well worth it- I have 2 dogs and it really gets the dog hair up.

My husband got me a Kenmore Progressive for Christmas and I think it is great. It has all of the attachments onboard and can clean the furniture, plus it can go from carpet to hardsurfaces (tile/hardwood) - which is really great, no more sweeping. YEAH! Less work is always great as a busy mom.

Dyson! They are expensive but the way they way they work make them well worth it. You can vacuum with your old vacuum and then re-vacuum with the Dyson and see the dirt in the canister that your vacuum missed. It is amazing how much cleaner your carpet feels on your feet. We've had ours for 4 years and it has not lost it suction at all. Finally a commerical that does not lie.

I have one that I used to love. The Infinity Shark. It uses the Dyson technology, but is about 1/2 the price. It is amazing what that thing sucks up. The bad part about it, and the reason I will buy a Dyson next time is that getting parts for this thing is like pulling teeth. The only thing I've had to replace was the belt and it took 6wks. Who here can go 6wks without a vacuum? The customer service with the company is horrible.-great product horrible service. I will buy a Dyson next time.

I LOVE my vacuum cleaner! I had wanted a Dyson, but couldn't afford it. Best Buy carries a brand that is just like a Dyson -but MUCH cheaper. The brand is VAX. My mom used it and went and bought her one, too and I've had several friends borrow it. Check with Best Buy. Sometimes they have to special order it. Good luck finding the best one for you!

I have two convenience vacs I like. 1. a red Electrolux floor vac that is recharable. It is fairly light and costs about $100 less 20% coupon at Bed & Bath. It is best on tile and wood. They also have them at Target, but B&B has a better return policy and the 20% off. 2. I have a Dyson hand vac that is rechargable which I love. Cost $150 and came from Bed & Bath with 20% off. It does what the other vac can not get to. They may have to order it for you. Both vacs were new last year. 3. I also have a Hoover Savvy with a bag option that I use on carpet. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE NEW BAGLESS VACS. THEY ARE DIRTY AND MESSY TO CLEAN. If you want a Hoover and live in SA, go to the Hoover shop on San Pedro. They usually have a special. Again Bed & Bath will let you return anything anytime with the receipt and box if you don't like it. They are thus my favortie store for items like this. However their selection is not the best on expensive items. Check out the latest Consumer Report Recommendations. They usually like the Sears brands. They list the repair record by brand. Hoover is not as good as it use to be. Hope this is helpful.

I love my miele....you can find them at HomeWerks...but shop around they are expensive... Had a salesman her trying to sell me a vac with water....after he left I pulled out my miele and it picked up more than where he demonstrated!
Also my daughter has a dyson for pet hairs and she loves it-also know a few others that love theirs.
Consumer reports says not spend over a few hundred dollars...but I got tired of buying new vac bec they broke or did not work anymore.

Well, I don't know what your budget is, but I am a big fan of Kirbys. My mother had an early 70s model when I was growing up (in the late 80s early 90s) that still worked when we sold it in a garage sale in 1995. I have two myself. I have an old one (late 80s model) that I bought used when I moved out of my mother's house in 2002. I still use it for vaccuuming out my truck and other particularly dirty jobs. I bought a new one about a year and a half ago that I use on my carpet in my house. I especially love the shampooing capabilities. The only drawback to Kirbys is that they are pricy (~$1500, but you can talk them down). You might even think about a used one if you really want the quality without the high price. If you're interested, look up a Kirby dealer in your area. They will bring one out to your house and give you a free demonstration. I hope this helps!

I have a ClearTrak that my ex and I purchased from Amway in 1990. I have replaced two belts in 18 years. It's awesome! The User Manual is so easy I can take it completely apart (to clean it) and put it back together by myself. The Kirby representatives who come to clean a room for free don't even find much dirt in my house. www.cleartrak.com

I have a Riccar. They are high dollar, but do an incredible job. I walked into a vacuum store in Frisco fixed on buying a Dyson, (and the store sold both). The owner told me that for the money that the Riccar did 100x the job of a Dyson! He then showed me with sand. He poured sand on a rug. One sweep of the Riccar vacuumed what it took 15 sweeps of the Dyson to do. It was very interesting. I don't know where they sell them close to here, but I know they sell them at McKinney Vacuum.

Check out Oreck. They are a little pricey but they give a lifetime warrenty. I got so tired of replacing my vaccums. It is so nice now. I take it in every year for a free service. If it brakes inbetween that there is no cost unless you yank the plug out of the wall and it shorts out.

Hi....I have a Rainbow vacumn, this is my second one. The first one lasted 25 yrs. What I like about it most is it filters thru water, so no dirty bags to throw away, only dirty water and it puts no dust back into the air. It is so powerful that it has pulled paneling nails thru carpet padding and the carpet. One reason I bought it, my daughter, is allergic to house dust and until then, it was a trip to the doctor every month, sometimes more often. My daughter in law also has bought one after using mine.

I love my Rainbow. They are very expensive but are available used or from a pawn shop or on e bay. The air and dirt you suck up are put into water and it acts as the filter. Nasty water to clean out of the basin, but it cleans the air so nicely. It's really amazing. I first purchased one in 1976 before my first child was born, it lasted us over 20 years. BUT you have to be sure to be picky about taking care of it, because the guts of the motor are not stainless steel, and if water accidentally gets sucked inside or evaporates inside (because you left it assembled after using it) then the maintainance costs are high. It's a trade off decision. You need to know whether or not you would be tempted to leave the thing dirty after using it. If you don't clean it out each time, it's not worth purchasing. I've never found anything that cleans as nicely. They have a new attachment that allows you to wet clean hard floors and sucks up the dirty water...I don't have that part yet. After the first Rainbow died, we purchased another nice vacuum, but eventually I missed my Rainbow, so purchased one used. I've also purchased one used for my father. They are definitely worth it (extra care and the price) to me.

We bought a dyson. It was expensive, but with a new baby and 3 dogs we had to have something that would really work. It is amazing. You can vaccuum a spot and fill up the dust recepticle, then vaccuum that same spot again and get more dirt. The carpet actually looks steam cleaned after you vaccuum it gets so much dirt up.

Yes, a Rainbow, have owned one for YEARS, they really clean and use a water basin rather than bags, thereby trapping all the dirt rather than letting any of it back out in the air. Great for allergy sufferers! They are pricey, but worth the money. Hope this helps.

On 3/7/08 Brigette H posted the same request for info on vacuum cleaners. I think she got like 87 responses. You might try to look up her responses. I have previously owned a Hoover Windtunnel and an Oreck. Neither of them worked as well as my Dyson. I absolutely love it. I have two black Great Danes so dog hair is an issue in my house. This vacuum picks up so much dirt I am amazed every time I use it. And I am so glad I don't have to deal with using bags anymore. The canister is so easy to hold over the trash can and empty. My sister in law liked it so much she bought one, too.
