Hi there everyone. My question is about vacuum cleaners. I have had a Dyson Animal now for six years. Well, about two years ago I had it "fixed" because the clutch went out or whatever. I have had nothing but problems with it since. i will NEVER buy a Dyson again. I think I would rather buy an inexpensive vacuum every couple years. So my question is what is the best vacuum you have used that is reasonably priced (under $200). I would like an upright and bagless. Please tell your thoughts!

Thanks, J.

I have a hoover canister vac and love it, I have had it for several years now. I need to get a new hose for it at some point but I have just put some duct tape on it for now and it is working. Its at least 5 years old and the hose is the only problem I have had with it(normal wear and tear). WOrks like a dream...

We have a Bissell Healthy Home vacuum cleaner and love it! Is has a filtering system that helps with alergies, dust mites etc. We have had it for about 5-6 years now and have had no trouble at all with it. I can't remember the exact price we paid, but I know that it was around $200-$250. It is bagless as well. Good luck finding what you need!

Eureka is good. The bagless was nice. However, I have a Dyson now for the past year and have been happy with it. Just a basic model but if you have a lot of hair and messes, it is good that it lasted 6 yrs. the other vacuums only last 1 yr max for us. I have come to realize we are h*** o* vaccumms with 4 women in the house with a lot of hair. I have owned a hoover and bissell and they always last less than 2 yrs. I have come to realize, it will cost about $100 a yr. for a vaccumm and the suction on the dyson is unprecedented. This one was $340 and I anticipate getting at least 5 yrs. out of it. hope this helps. sorry your dyson didn't work out.

We have always bought Bissell vacuums and LOVE THEM! They are really great vacuums. I've had several different models and I replace it every 2-3 years, not because I have to just because it just seems to happen that way. They only thing is make sure you keep up with changing the filters otherwise it doesn't work quite as well.
Good Luck!

When I bought a new vacuum just about 2 years ago, I referred to the Consumer Reports article on vacuums. I ended up with a canister from Sears, a Kenmore model. Although it does take a little getting use to (like having the canister follow you around instead of in front of you as you vacuum), I really like it now. It is great on stairs, has a telescoping handle to reach high places, a button for an automatic cord rewind (no more rolling up the cord myself! YEAH!), a POWERED hand attachment for the stairs (must have the powered one, not the air driven one), power controls on the handle, etc. One of the things I like most is that I can actually get under low places (like the bed & coffee tables) and completely vacuum since there is no canister to worry about getting in the way on the upright. Now I will say, if vacuuming with one-hand is a must, then a canister is not for you, stick with the uprights as you will sometimes need both hands since you will have to pull the canister along at times.

If you have the opportunity to try the vacuum before buying it, DO SO! Sears and Best Buy have a little place set up to give it a try. Make sure you don’t stick to the small patch they give you to try it out but instead move it around corners as you would do at home to get a better idea.

Good luck!

I have a Eureka Boss SmartVac and LOVE it. It's the second one we've owned and it had the highest rating on Consumer Reports. It's not bagless, but Eureka does have other models that are bagless and the prices are reasonable.
