We want to take a family trip but don't know where to go. We live in St. Petersburg so Disney and Busch Gardens are regular spots for us. We have two girls, 16 and 13, and a 1 y/o boy...any recommendations?

What can I do next?

i agree with everything Michelle M said. Cruises are the best vacation so much to do for all ages and everything included. I love Royal Caribbean and I have tried others but will only do Royal from now on.

Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, TN (Smoky Mountains)
Washington DC (we went when I was 12 and LOVED it)
WI Dells (lots of water parks for ALL ages, shopping, natural scenery)

I agree with asking the girls where they want to go. Back before the internet, my mom would have us go through travel books at the library. We were responsible for researching where we were going and how to make it the cheapest trip possible. Mom took me and my two youngest brothers on all our vacations(dad stayed home). I had to help map out the trip and help her navigate through the cities. We also planned to go to the museums and buildings on days that were free.

Those were the best trips and I still LOVE to travel. I have the confidence that I can travel anywhere and am awesome at reading a map and giving directions. (Thanks, Mom!)

Make it an adventure for them and have fuN!

Personally I'd cater to the girls. Your son isn't going to remember anything about this trip and will be happy as a clam to be going with you and cruising around in his stroller.

Depending on your budget, Hawaii is *amazing*. We went when my first daughter was 15 months and it was great. We were in Waikiki and there was TONS to do - we'd go to the beach in the mornings, take a nap (I was also 3 months pregnant), then go do some shopping, visit the zoo, etc.

We just got back from doing a 3-day Disney Cruise and it was PHENOMENAL! I know you said you've been to Disney regularly, but the cruise was AMAZING! And they have plenty for all age groups to keep everyone happy. There are separate clubs (with adult supervision, of course, but no parents allowed) for the 11 to 13 year old set, and the 14 to 17 year olds. There is a nursery for the baby if the adults want to spend some time in the spa or the adult-only deck and pool. There is a kids club and kids pool of course but it's for kids 3 and up, who are potty trained. The food was excellent and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. And they spend a day at their own private island in the Bahamas, which was awesome too!

And BTW, it was me, DH, my stepsons (ages 16 and 17) and my DD (age 3) and everyone had a most excellent time! We were sad to leave - should have done a 4-day or 7-day instead!

Another suggestion would be Cape Cod, MA - lived in MA for 11 years and have many fond memories of weekends spent with the boys down on the Cape. Plus we have a time share on Block Island, Rhode Island and still make it out there every August for our week, even though we now live in Michigan! Block Island is terrific too!

I can also recommend Myrtle Beach, SC - went there almost 3 years ago and the boys really liked that too!

I highly recommend Pigeon Forge/Gatlainburg, TN. LOVE it there & there's a ton to do for people of all ages. Tons of dinner shows, shopping, putt-putt, go-cart racing, rides, museums, aquarium...... now I'm wanting to go back. I try to go once a year. LOL! My top recommendations are Ripley's Aquarium (in Gatlainburg) and Dixie Stampede (in Pigeon Forge). The two cities are within 10 miles of eachother. You visit one, you visit both. Have a great vaca!

SeaWorld! We just went there a couple weeks ago & loved it. :)

There are several things around Huntsville, Alabama (northeast Alabama). U.S. Space & Rocket Center; Alabama Constitution Village; EarlyWorks Children's Museum, Huntsville Depot, Botanical Gardens.

Chattanooga, TN, also has a lot to see. Tennessee Aquarium, Rock City, Ruby Falls...

Consider taking a cruise. Kids of all ages love it and have so much to do AND there are lots of adult things as well. There are teen night clubs...some are 12-15 year olds only (so you don't have to worry about the older teens) and then there are things for the older teens. They have a FREE Kids Camp that you can drop your little ones at, but they have to be 2 or older. Our kids LOVE the camp. All food and your place to stay are included in the price. You can visit islands you may have never been to. And if you are already in FL, no need to pay air to get to a port which is awesome!!! There are sooooo many things to do on a boat, or you can just sit and relax. If you are nervous about taking one, there are 3-4 days ones to start with. Once you step on that ship, you will never even realize you are on a boat. It's a giant city.

We are wondering the same thing for our summer vacation. Have been to Hilton Head several times and love it there. It has lots of great things to do, but maybe mostly for younger kids than your teens. Lots of entertainers perform for free around the island--singers, clowns, magicians--so there is always lots to do. I'm curious to see what people say here too. I think the cruise idea is a good one, and you might be able to snag a good last minute deal. I just looked at Disney cruises and things were pretty booked up for the summer already.

What Lesley said. Make it a nice trip for your teens.
Especially your 16 yr. old...you have her around for a couple more yrs.
So, if you're gearing it toward the teens, ask them!

Are you looking to stay in FL? If not, Colorado is amazing for skiing, shopping, sight-seeing, sledding, hiking and just relaxing. Our favorite place is Vail, but we also love Breckenridge. They have on-site daycare for the younger kids while you ski; it's so much fun! Good luck choosing!

Drive to Gatlinburg Tennessee and rent a cabin. You can play in the streams, climb mountains, go for a day and a half at Dollywood, save a lot of money in a cabin rental compared to hotel costs and cook your food in the cabin too.
