I see u live in Cali. But if u are looking somewhere u drive we just got back from the hyatt grand in Huntington beach. We booked on line best place for family ever.. Beach across the street. Street fair. Mini mall in resort with kid friendly places to eat. S more pits by the pool. 3 pools one just for kids remodeled with 3 water slides. Go to hyatt.com we booked the sun shine special and got a night free. There a two guards close by so make sure u are looking at the one just remodeled with the water park. Our friends that work for the hyatt told us about this place. Best family vacation ever 8 yr old and 5 yr. Old lots of other kids for my kids to play with.

I'd check out some of the great "family camps" in California. My brother-in-law and family love going to the one at UC Santa Barbara. We've gone to a more local one at Jones Gulch (SF YMCA) in La Honda. They do week long camps for youth, but open up to families for a few weekends (we go Labor Day). I've heard some other friends talk about Camp Tuolomne which is run by the City of Berkeley, but open to any one. I think San Jose might have a family camp in the Sierra, too.

Honestly I think a 5 year old would probably be fine going anywhere! There are tons of smaller theme parks around the country and everywhere has something they boast about. I'd say pick some places you want to go and then appeal to your child. Is there a state you always wanted to visit or a site you wanted to see? Check out Family Fun magazine b/c they always do family friendly vacation ideas, I'm sure their website is full of them! You could go camping or hiking, you could a hotel with a water park, you could somewhere that has an awesome zoo, you could go to the mountains...the possibilities are endless!

Anywhere in nature would be my suggestion. I'd skip the theme parks and hit the mountains or the beaches. I grew up camping from 6 months on and my love of nature and the environment is a direct result of spending time in it. Plus, it's healthy!!
