Check again with the doctor about the blood if it isn't disappearing by tomorrow. Avoid sugar, caffeine, alcohol, spicy foods (all of these will make it worse). Cranberry juice concentrate (not sweetened) is fine, too.

You can get an OTC called AZO for the pain, but be aware that the AZO can mask any future labs/UAs , so I'd talk to the doc before starting to take it, esp. if they want to retest you for the bleeding.

Could you be experiencing some mid-cycle spotting? I've never heard of that much blood during a UTI. If it's coming out in clots without urination, and you are sure it's from your urethra, do check in with the doc.

Did you specifically discuss the presence of blood with your doctor? I'm prone to UTIs because I forget to drink water and am a coffeeaholic. I've had at least six bouts with UTIs over the last few years, but I've never ever seen blood. If you did discuss it and he said it's a symptom of UTI, I'd just add that drinking lots of water regularly will help to prevent them in the future. Ouch and ouch. You'll feel like a new woman when the antibiotics kick in -- hang in there!

Your doctor can also prescribe a medicine to numb your urinary tract to ease the burn. It turns your pee orange, but helps a lot. I would call and ask about that and mention the bleeding. I've only had tiny amounts of blood when wiping after urinating, never in between, and it went away right after starting the antibiotics so that is definitely something I would call the doctor about.

I went through a patch of frequent UTIs in my 20's.
I never had blood other than MAYBE a little pinkish pee on the TP.
Never had to use a pad or had it get on my underwear.
I'm not saying its abnormal, but I never experienced that.
I'd call the doc and ask in the morning. And yes, you'll feel relief after a few doses.

Tip for the future: Pee before AND after sex!

I've had blood with a UTI, but just a bit on the tissue when I wipe. Not outside of urination, and no clots. I would check with your doctor if it continues.

I used to get these, about 1/year. I always felt better within 24 hours of taking the antibiotic. I will say I never had more than a strain of blood in my urine from the infection, so I'm not sure if what you have is related or not. I'd call the doctor just to check and be sure.

Once you get one, your chance of getting another one is higher. If you ever feel one coming on, guzzle cranberry juice, it truly works! I haven't had one for years, but the last time I had one I drank about a gallon of it and didn't even need an antibiotic. Sorry, they're not fun.

I suggest that enough blood to cause you to need to wear a pad along with blood clots is not caused by a "normal" UTI. I urge you to call the doctor's office and ask them about this.

I've had lots of UTI's and I have never had more than a slightly pinkish stain when I wipe (in terms of blood). While it's true that antibiotics take a while to kick in -- I've always heard 'wait 24-48 hours -- the amount of blood you are talking about and the pattern (not with urination) sounds a bit surprising. I would call your doctor to check out these symptoms.

If you're not feeling better within a day or two, your UTI could be resistant to the antibiotic. I experienced this when I took Septra and the doctor had to prescribe something else stronger. I've never experienced blood before. You should really tell your doctor. Drink lots of cranberry juice and take AZO also for the pain.

Missy F was right on about the pill for burning. There's also one over the counter. I never had much blood with my utis. That sounds a little abnormal. For me the antibiotics start to work in 3 or 4 days usually. I have interstitial cystitis, painful bladder syndrome. I think letting a uti go untreated may have contributed to me getting it. There's no cure; it damaged bladder lining. So, do take care to make sure this is treated. I think sometimes different bacteria need different anti-biotics. If they are working you should have full relief in a few more days. Good luck!

Did your doctor confirm a UTI from just your symptons only or did he do a urine culture? The doctor and I both believed I had a UTI (Went to urgent care on a weekend when the lab was closed.) by my symptoms. He treated me with antibiotics, which in the past helped almost immediately. This time they didn't help, and I hardly had any relief by day 3. Turned out I had a kidney stone...symptoms became much worse as it traveled down the ureter and finally passed.

It has been a while but around 24 hours. I would say tomorrow morning you should feel better.
