Has anyone had a UTI that would just not go away?
I have rarely had one, but this one has gone on for a month now. I went to walk in clinic thinking it was not big deal. The day after I finished the meds, it came back. My urologist is a long drive away and I had been looking for a new interenist and urologist closer. I couldn't get in to the urologist for 3 weeks. The new internist put me on another med and the same thing happened. I am allergic to penicilin, but had used Keflex for sinus infections with no problem, so we tried that. It was working great until I broke out in hives. Got in to the urologist. Unknowingly, he put me on the same med (not penicillin) as the doctor had, so here I go again! I went to his office this morning to leave a sample, but he was not in. I have taken AZO for the burning and discomfort, garlic, and am drinking organic cranberry juice.
I have very achy legs and burning across my lower abdomen. Any advice until I can try to see the urologist tomorrow?
Thanks.

What can I do next?

Are you sure it is just a UTI? Make sure they test you for a bladder/kidney infection-these are not the same thing and require different tests. I am also allergic to penicillin have had a host of other antibiotics that have worked. I got these so frequently at one point that they put me on a low dose, daily antibiotic. I finally went 6 months with no problem and stopped taking it with very few and mild infections since.

I had horrible discomfort the day after I finished my antibiotic for a UTI. My doc told me the infection could not come back that quickly and told me it was bladder spasms. He prescribed some kind of medication for the spasms and I was fine. He didn't even want to see me in the office.

Feel better!

I live in McKinney too. I went to the ecare on Eldorado and Hardin . I had what I thought was a uti too and it would not go away even after meds..(from another doctor). It got bad enough that I went to the ecare. Turned out I had a badder infection on top of the uti. I needed 3 different medications. One for the uti (one pill) one antibiotic (taken for a few days), one for the bladder infection (to ease discomfort... The one that turned your pee orange) and than another pill for the uti after all the other meds were done. I was told the second dose of uti med was because the antibiotic will sometimes bring the uti symptoms back so hence the double dose. It worked like a charm... Go see them! I hope you feel better soon!

The only thing I can suggest is making sure you are sticking to a caffeine/sugar/alcohol free diet. Make sure your cranberry juice has no sweeteners in it.

The AZO may affect the labs/specimens. Be prepared for this. I was always told not to take AZO until I had given a urine sample because something in it can throw off the results.

I can't advise you other than this. Please take it easy and get as much rest as you possibly can. Also, there's a great supplement from Dr. Tori Hudson called CranStat Extra, which you can take on a daily basis to ward off future UTIs. I don't know if you can find it in TX, but the company is Vitanica and the address is 10347 SW Spokane Ct, Tualatin OR 97062. (I don't know if they have an online entity--quite likely they do.) I've used this supplement and highly recommend it.

I hope you feel better soon.
