Maybe a Developmental Therapist in Early Intervention. You can check this website to see if it seems interesting: http://www.wiu.edu/ProviderConnections/ You would set your own hours and determine how many kids you want to see, etc. Since you live in Palatine you could also try calling the local Child and Family Connections for your area and talk to the LIC Coordinator at ###-###-####. I know there is a shortage of therapists in Early Intervention.

Try working for a text book company..

Jobs are hard to find in these days of tight purse strings but teachers for special ed seem to be needed but that does not seem to be what you are looking for but here is a couple ideas.

Did you think of a sub position, they don't do lesson plans just show up when and where needed. My girl friend was a sub for special ed department at our school district she liked it alot.

Or did you think about a sub position at Special Education District for McHenry County (aka: SEDOM) Or maybe in the office end.

How about something with Easter Seals. I know there is one in Woodstock. How about the United Way or with the Head Start Programs for McHenry County. Head Start does a lot of out source programs but I don't know if they have a very large staff.

Ditto on looking into being a Developmental Therapist. You can contract yourself to the state and make your own hours etc.

I have been a substitute for many years and loved it. Of course it is not predictable but you also can take time with your children. My degree is in Communications/paralegal studies. Now that my children are grown I will search for other work but it will be hard leaving kids so I am still signing up to do it on the off chance I do not find anything. You can say no if the child is sick, you keep your foot in the education world and you can still make money. There are long term sub jobs which you can make a very decent amount of money. Try different school districts as then you will have jobs all of the time. Sometimes they just need a.m. or p.m. teacher aides places, too or substitute teacher aides. I think you are in McHenry or Cook county. Try DuPage,also.

I also am/was a special ed teacher. It is hard but you can sub, find a part time job (I did that for about a year), or try to find a classroom consultant type position. They are few and far between but just check the Lake and Cook County Regional Offices of Education and they have a listing of all job openings in Lake and Cook county. You can also tutor and post your job/hours/rate on Craigslist. Good luck!! I know how is to want to work a little but not be in charge of a caseload.
