OK - so co-worker has a "busted Bursa" on his elbow. He's had it for going on 3 weeks. He went to his GP, who had "never seen anything like that before". He went to the Urgent Care and they drained it and injected steroids.
The skin is not discollored, no redness, but it is swollen to about the size of a golf ball. It's been leaking a clear, gold-ish fluid for the last 2-3 weeks (kind of reminds me of gold motor oil consistency). It doesn't hurt, but is a bit tender because of the swelling.
Any idea who he should visit for this since his doc and urgent care haven't been able to help?

Why didn't his GP refer him to a specialist? While I agree that an orthopedist sounds right, his GP should KNOW who he needs to see. It's his job to say, "I don't know, but ... " and then send to him the right person. It is not his job to just sit there and shake his head and give up.

An orthopedist should be able to help him. The bursa is a membrane or sac filled with synovial fluid to help joints move.
The leakage? Is most likely synovial fluid.
The doctor should have told him he has bursitis and referred him to an orthopedic surgeon. He should have had a blood test to check his white blood cell count for an infection.

My dad had this issue a few years ago, and he saw an orthopedist. The orthopedist treated it and then referred my dad to physical therapy for a few sessions.

I am going with agreeing with Jennifer. My cousin is struggling with this and I am pretty sure she said she was seeing an orthopedic surgeon.

He needs to see a bone and joint specialist- an orthopedist. There are offices specializing in just this kind of disorder, most don't require a referral.
I agree with everyone else. Orthopedic surgeon or specialist.
Whether he'll need a referral or not depends on his insurance.
