Unflavored "Tylenol"

I do not know of an unflavored acetominophen product for children and would not want one anyway. Most drugs are very bitter and extremely unpleasant which is why flavors are added to liquids and tablets tend to be coated. If you want to avoid the flavors then the only option I know of as a pharmacist are acetominophen suppositories which you place rectally. These are over-the-counter.

Hating the medicine is a childhood rite of passage :) I agree with the mom's, they have to flavor it for a reason. My kids all say the bubble gum flavor is not bad.

I have forgotten now which, and it may be different for you anyway. Some flavors were absolutely horrible for my son, but another was tolerable.

We tended to favor Motrin over Tylenol anyway (tylenol isn't effective for either me or my husband) and went with the berry flavored no dye motrin. That was okay for him and he'd check to see if it was this one whenever he needed any liquid medication, and if it was something else, he wouldn't :-/

I know that the pharmacy that I work at will "flavor" liquid medicines for $3. I wonder if you could find a flavor that was more palatable to your son? We have every flavor imagineable!!! See what they have that sounds good.

Ask the pharmacist if they can prepare something.

My son can't have dyes and flavorings due to allergies. We had the pharmacist calculate the proper dose for his age/weight and determined that half of an adult REGULAR strength tylenol tablet was what HE needs. We use a pill cutter to cut it in half and a pill crusher to crush it, then we mix it with something he can have and give it that way.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist to see if this is something you could do.

My sons throws up every time I try to give him the Tylenol suspension. I changed from Tylenol to Motrin berry flavor, which he takes without a problem. Motrin is a Ibuprofen suspension, not acetaminophen, but since it is also a fever and pain reducer, I use that whenever he is sick with a fever.

Unflavored tylenol taste awful . If you don't believe me find a generic tylenol that is not coated and let some desolve in your mouth. It's horrible. Try being sick and vomiting it back up. Its even worse. They coat and flavor that stuff for a reason.

Yes, agreed with other posters. My toddler hates the stuff too, but you just have to mask it or make them suck it up! ;) either option isn't that great, but you have to do something! We've found that mixing it with a tiny bit of water then sucking it up in the Motrin syringe and shooting into her mouth works the best. She prefers that method to drinking it from the little cup and I'm sure you have a ton of those extra syringes lying around...I know I do!

Have you ever had a tyenol stick on your tounge before you can swallow? It is so nasty! Even if they did not mask it with artificial stuff, it would not be unflavored.

The best option is suppositories. We used them for our child who hated the taste and would spit it out. She did not like the suppositiries either, but when they need it, they need it. The good news is, by the time she was 5, she learned to take a pill rather than to have us "administer" the other way!
