Uggh! I Can't Keep Track of It All! I'm "Losing" Stuff All the Time!!!

I am trying to get rid of stuff and generally keep the house in order.

I am schelpping three young kids and I just can't seem to remember it all! So it's not just packing for ME for the pool, it's for four of us.

The last vacation weekend we went on I lost the baby's shoes! I looked high and low before checking out, and NO SHOES! How does this happen?

Now I can't find a piece of jewelry of mine. I really think it's misplaced, not lost, i.e. put away somewhere, I just can't remember where! I have searched high and low. I dug through my makeup bags, emptied my jewlery box and even looked in those little hiding
places I thought I may have put it. IT MAKES NO SENSE. I want to cry.

My house is in good order. I do not have hoardes of stuff anywhere. I just seem to be putting stuff down and forgetting where I left it...the baby needs a diaper change, so I put down what's in my hands, then we're trying to leave for the grocery store and I can't find my keys! It's driving me crazy!

Yes, I do have "usual" places where my keys go. But trying to juggle three kids by myself is just taking it's toll.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone!

Yes, I am "that Mom" who is the "girl scout" who usually has EVERYTHING - including a first aid kit in the car, an extra diaper, etc.

I recently read that the military suggests pre-packing bags and hanging them in the garage - like a beach bag, park bag, etc. So you can grab and go. I like the idea, but clearly THEY aren't packing for babies and toddlers! LOL

Yes, I will pray to St. Anthony. I'm pretty confident I "stored" my jewelry in a very safe place...I don't think the kids got into it. I think I just "put it away" somewhere!!! Uggh.

For keys you could attach a key finder :) Also making a hook by the door that the kids can't reach so it won't be much thought to just stick them up there. I have usual places but when you don't put them there it's a 30 min or more frenzy trying to remember where ya put them haha. For packing stuff I triple check everything. I write a list of what we need, pack it by the list, then double check and think for a moment of the actual trip... like going to the pool, I start picturing it in my head, like okay we're at the pool she will need sunscreen for the sun burn, a float for the water, etc and then I'm like oh duh she needs sandals. It works for me :)

I feel ya. I usee to be able to find anything if I just put my mind to it. Lately I've been totally losing things and having no luck right away. I did find the library book that wass missing after tearing apart a bedroom but still haven't taken it back and the day I found it was the due date! Last night my parents were over and i wanted to show thwm a video of our trip. Wouldn't ya know the cord was missing to plug it into the tv! I always had it together but realized I may have left it at our cabin when I used it last(that is very odd of me though but since I almost left my purse there(which I never do) it is possible. So wetried to put the card for the video recorder into the Wii to watch it and only one pic showed up. I don't even know what it was! So my daughter gives us her camera cord to try and it fits but then it won't work because my battery is now low! WTH? So I go to look in the camera bag for the extra battery and it's gone! WTH? I always keep it all together and have barely used it. I was so mad and felt so confused. After they left I turned on the video just on the camer to see if the video wqas on there and it was! They could have watched it that way but i thought it wouldn't work because the battery was low when I plugged in the cord and it wouldn't show anything! Arghhhhhhhh! Did you check your pockets in your shorts or pants or in the diaper bag for your neklace? Good Luck! I hope you find it.

Repeat after me... "Dear Saint Anthony, come around. Something's lost and can't be found." Walk around your home uttering this over and over again, and you will probably find WHATEVER it is that you are looking for.

It MIGHT be God answering your prayer, or maybe just using that mantra might help focus your brain and help you to remember, but there has only been a few times in my life that saying that prayer while looking has not worked for me.

Good luck!!

You are not the only one :) I recently had my 3rd- he is 12 weeks today- and I am going through the same thing! I recently misplaced the kids/my YMCA cards and knowing they are somewhere I put them but can't find them is driving me batty! I finally sucked it up and paid to replace them after a month of claiming I forgot them! I think they stopped believing me :) sorry you lost a piece of jewelry- hope that turns up! My MIL prays to St Anthony when she can't find things but that only seems to work for her...she had 5 kids and now has 14 grandkids so imagine how rattled her brain is! Did you check the change purse in your wallet for jewelry- that is where I put mine if I am out somewhere and must take it off! Good luck!

It does get you down sometimes especially if you were an organized (and a time conscious) person, especially before kids. Misplacing things is not an option. I feel you about outings too - maybe I pack like a scout - be prepared, but I never seem to get out the door with less than a couple of bags - wallet, keys, diapers, change of clothes, sunscreen, drinks, snacks, toys, stroller, oh and the kids. Meanwhile my husband waltzes on out the door happy as larry. I went to a concert recently and must have checked I had the tickets 10 times before I went out the door. Imagine driving 300 miles to find the tickets are at home! Plus, even if you do put things down in a known place - a 2 year old comes and moves it, not knowing that you will know where you put it! You're not going crazy and I'm sure you are not alone. I'm with you! Mum's united I say. Maybe take a minute while the littlest are napping or at least are "safe" and relax - retrace your steps and it might just come back to you - you probably put it somewhere extra safe and have forgotten. You can then chuckle about the episodes after the fact. Good luck with your jewelry search - I hope your little mites haven't innocently relocated it!

Until last summer I could remember EVERYTHING. Last summer I had my 3rd child. I now have to write notes and lists for everything and then lose those notes and lists.

This drives me crazy too. I don't know how I can get my brain back. I keep purging more things in our home in hopes that I can be even more organized. I'm pretty organized but things are just crazy since we added the 3rd child.
