My grandson picks at his diaper and puts little pieces he pulls off into his mouth. He is two years and 5 months old. Has anyone ever faced this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions? He has been checked out by the doctor and had blood work done for any deficiencies and everything checks out fine.
My daughter ordered cloth diapers and some kind of cover up pants for him. We will see how they work. Will keep you posted, thanks for the help.
Cloth diapers, putting underwear over his diaper, or using pull ups(they don't have tabs so maybe a little harder to pick at).
Time to get rid of the diaper, that will take care of the problem.

Are you asking because you are worried that he has a medical problem and that is why he is eating the diaper? Everyone is telling you how to keep him from picking at the diaper, but it seems to me that you are just wondering WHY he does it. I think it's just because he is 2. Honestly, if his doctor doesn't see anything wrong, it is probably just a phase and will pass. My 11 month old is going through the "head banging" phase now and I sure can't wait for it to pass! I can honestly say I don't know anyone who doesn't keep the diaper covered with at least a onsie or some other type of garment that cover the diaper. They take them off, they play in the pooh, they pee on the floor because their diaper is hidden in the kitchen cabinets.....put some clothes on him where he can't access the diaper.
I have the same problem, not the eating, but the picking and taking off. My son is autistic so that adds to it. I found onsies online if you look for autism special needs clothing. But, they run between $15 to $25 each! I know right? The doctor also suggested using zip up pajamas, and backwards if you need to, but I haven't tried it yet. Good luck! At 2.5 you could get him started on potty training. Get some cloth trainers - nothing to pick off and eat and they will get wet when he urinates, which helps getting kids ready to ditch the diaper.
At night put him in a one piece sleeper.
