Two Things

My parents live in Florida and would like to come for an extended stay, say, a month, to hang out with our 3-year-old daughter (their only grandchild). I was hoping to find some sort of short-term rental situation since our house isn't big enough to comfortably accomodate them for that long a stay. Is anyone aware of good, short-term rentals in the North Austin/NW Hills area?
Also, we're looking for a good, reliable handyman. Any recommendations?
Thanks,
J.

The residence inn/extended stay hotel type of hotels are usually a really good deal. . . most have a kitchenett, laundry services in or nearby the Inn, they are normally resonable priced and come with weekly (or more) maid service! For a month long stay, they will usually be less expensive than a furnished apt or home for the month.

J.,

That first question is a toughie. It's possible that if a hotel/motel in the NW area is aware of your parents' situation, that they may cut them a deal. People are not traveling this year like they were last year due to the economic times and so hotels/motels could be suffering as a result. They may end up being very negotiable about their rates, especially for long-termers (folks staying a few weeks or longer). I would definitely try that route if I were you.
On the second question, we can help you. My husband owns Ritter Renovations and we're actually based out of the NW side of town. There's no way for me to attach his flyer for you to review it on mamasource. If you're open to giving me your email address, I can send it to you then. Otherwise, just know that he's been in the remodeling/handyman business for over 30 years and has tons of excellent references. His # is ###-###-####. Hope this helps you! :)

I love to hear that your parents want to come and stay for so long to visit your daughter. My father just moved down here in May because he wanted to be with us and our son (his only grandkid). I wanted to respond because my dad is doing a little handyman work on the side to keep himself busy (there are only so many chores to do around our house!). He's been in the construction business since before I was born so a little over 30 years. Back home, he did A LOT of handyman work for elderly friends and family of his grandmother. His name is Dean and his cell phone number is ###-###-####.

Hope you're able to find somewhere for your parents to stay when they come. Aside from extended stay places, I am not sure of other options. There is company called Home Away that rents vacation rentals. They are based out of Austin so I bet they have a handful of property listed in Austin. They might be pricey though. Good luck!

I will send out a request to my email list,, but in the meantime you could call around and see if any of the "extended stay" places in North and NW hills has any deals.. They have kitchens and even have swimming pools. This would be fun for all of you to go and visit the grandparents and be able to keep privacy at your own home..
