Two Sets of Twins!

I have 13month old twin daughters and am 2months pregnant with twins. My husband and I are ecstatic and so excited but also trying to prepare the best that we can. So far we have a cleaning/laundry lady who will come twice a week and are in the process of lining up a full-time or several part-time nannies to help in the first few months with childcare, cleaning, shopping, etc. I would love to chat with any moms with multiple sets of twins or just any mom who can give me ideas on how to make things run as smoothly as possible. My husband is a great help and we have some family in the area who will help as well. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi C....
I am a bit late at sending out a little note, but I wanted to say Congratulations! I am pregnant with my first set; I guess I will never know if this could be a repeated thing! Do you have any suggestions for me being a first time Mom and Mom of twins...?? Everyone tells me to sleep while I can. Perhaps you can find a good friend to take your children for an hour or so each day and take a nap yourself. It is great to hear thta your husband is so helpful. I, too, have a husband that goes above and beyond to make sure that I am well. I am sure that will continue once the babies are born. Well, good luck...when are you due?

Hey,C.; God Bless you, girl! You and your husband seem to be handling the one set of twins wonderfully and it looks like you'll have no problem adjusting to two more sibs. The extra sets of hands from the household "staff" you plan to acquire will be a fantastic boost to your energy level. I'm jealous- when I had my boy/girl twins 13 years ago (at age 31 no less!), my husband and I were totally caught off guard. We managed out of sheer necessity and love for the children-nothing more. I think if I had been a lot younger I would have been more patient, but that's hindsight. We have no family in our immediate area, just those who are one hour plus away from us.

You should check out websites about Mothers of Twins clubs in your region (I'm in Burlington, WI.), if you haven't already. A club that is a support group (and a great excuse for r&r) did wonders for me when my kids were small. You'll know you're not alone; in fact, one of the members in the club I used to belong to did have two sets of twins. She had two boys and two girls. They were about five years apart if I remember correctly. I think they also had a lot of support from family and friends. Never be afraid to ask anyone for help, no matter how small you think the favor might be, thinking you should be able to handle it yourself, etc. Remember to give yourself a break, and leave the guilt at the door when you go out for some fresh air. Swap time outs with your husband, just to talk a walk alone or drive to get an ice cream cone (bring him back one or you won't get to go again-lol!). He'll realize and appreciate the value of time alone, especially on his days off from work when he gets the full "flavor" of what 12-14 day hours are like with the babies in their awake modes.

Also,"don't sweat the small stuff"-a phrase that still makes me cringe every time I hear it-because the small stuff means something different to each person. Oh, and take deep breaths. Lots of deep breaths. :) Good luck!

Congrats C.! One set of twins is a blessing and challenge enough. You're 4x blessed!

I have 3 year old twins, so I know what it's like to spend all your energy on others and not yourself. You've all ready done it once, so you know you can do it again. Remember to take care of yourself, listen to your doctor and your body. It's what's best for your babies.

If you would like to talk, you can email me, or visit this multiples web site - it's great for all your questions: twinshock.net

Good luck!

C.,
I realize you are probably close to or have had your twins. I just got on-line and read your request. I am new to this site. I have two sets of twins: two boys age 3 and a boy and girl age 10 months. It is a lot of work but very rewarding. If you find the time, you are welcome to contact me with any questions or just some one to talk to in the same situation.
Good luck!
J.

I am so happy to see that you are excited- When my twins were 14 months old I found out that (even while still b/f both of them) I was pregnant again, and knowing the chances of me having twins again were very high, I was terrified!
I now have ONE beautiful 3 month old and 2 rambunctious 2 yr olds! I also run my own business and work for 2 other companies as an independent contractor, so I finally talked my 21 yr old sister into staying with me a few months to help out with the kids so I can get work done.
I loved having twins but just pray for you for the patience you need for 2 sets so close together- it will be almost like having quadruplets! LOL! Good luck!

Hi C.,
I am a mother of twins, a lot of work, and a SAHM. I have 5 kids all together, ages 8,3, 16months (the twins) and an 8 week. And all I can say is a routine is good!! Also a place that is safe that they can play and not get hurt or you don't have to worry about them. My twins have their room safe were we can shut the door or put the gate up and they will play happily together for hours (if we'd let them). But that way when my baby needs something I can tend to her and not have to worry about what they are into or them getting her. I tell you have a lot of work ahead of you, I remember how hard it was when they are babies, and then at the age your twins are now, they run in 2 different directions. I'd glad to here that you have lots of help. If you need to talk, send me a note, always willing to shear ideas about twins. It's harder with 2 but with 2 sets it's going to be crazy! Good Luck.

I don't have any suggestions ... Just wanted to tell you how lucky I think you are. My husband and I want 4 children (we have 1 and are working on #2). I prayed and prayed to have at least 1 set of twins (they run in both families), since we are both in our thirties and really feeling the clock tick (LOL). Ideally I wanted two sets of twins, but we are really thankful for any children we have! I suspect it will be difficult but hang in there!

I don't know where you live, but there are Moms of Twins clubs all around. I have 3 1/2 year old twin boys. The group I go to is Greater Kalamazoo Mothers of Multiples (GKMOM). It's awesome! We have a couple families with triplets, more than one set of multpiles, and even a mom of quads! We'd love to hear from you as I'm sure any club colse to you would. Our website is http://www.gkmom.org and all the contact info is there. If you need contact info for another one closer to you, PM me and let me know where you live and I'll look it up! Good luck on your pregnany!
