Hello D.... I always used aerosol hair spray on pen... Spray it directly on the pen - wait about 5 minutes and repeat and then used soapy water and clean it off or if you can remove the cover put it in the washer... Should help... but the fact you already tried something may have set the stain!?
Good luck - C.

oddly enough, hairspray is the only thing i have found that gets out the pen. you have to apply a fair amount and it just dissolves it!

I know that hairspray has gotten ink out of many of my jeans and other pants. Not sure what to tell you on the vomit though. Good luck!

I would use sol-u-mel on both. More diluted on the second. Non toxic and I have used it to get pen out of my couch. I have also used it to freshen my bed, but it will also help with the vomit.
I buy it online, if you want the site let me know.

I've used Sol-U-Mel on the vomit smell issue. I buy it on-line. It can also be used to take out some nasty stains. Let me know if you'd like the site.

D.,

Check out Nature's Miracle. It is available at pet stores and is designed to eliminate pet stains and odors. It contains enzymes that eat the offending "stuff." I don't know if it will work on vomit, but it is an inexpensive option.

Problem 1 - the pen: Use Carbona's ink remover. This is a stupendous product. It will get the ink out. You can find it at JoAnn fabric stores.

Problem 2 - the barf: If you can find it, use OdorEndZyme or something like it. This is a cleaning product with an enzyme in it that "eats" the barf molecules, thereby removing the smell. Insight Unlimited (insightllc.net) used to carry it.

My daughter wrote on our micro-suede and I got it it out by rubbing hand sanitizer into the marks and scrubbing it off with a warm, wet rag; this worked like a charm! Not sure about the mattress pad, other than maybe using some baking soda on it. Good luck!!

All this depends on your couch fabric type. Is it leather, faux leather, suade, microfiber, or tapestry fabric?
You can get the manufacturer's info (there is usually a label or stamp on the bottom of the unit) , or call where you purchased it to get the manufacturers info.and call them. They will be able to tell you how to clean it.
I have heard that WINDEX and rubbing works. If the pen is water soluble, use soap and water. Or with Colgate white paste toothpaste rub in with a toothbrush with a little bit of water (works great for pen, pencil and markers on walls, too). Blot, and then repeat until it comes out. If that does not work, I have used Enzyme fabric cleaner and soap. A long time ago I used foam carpet cleaner on one, but first try the windex.
As for throw up and mattresses. Go to the pet store and get "Nature's Miracle" spray. It is an enzymatic cleaner that won't hurt any thing, and it gets rid of the the smell and the stain comes out. Later clean with foam carpet cleaner.
Good luck.
A little about me: I'm a SAHM of 9 who now range in age from 32 down to 9. I had a day care center as well, and these ideas have been put to the test.

I totally agree about the hairspray, it works like magic on ballpoint pen. As for the other, I would use Febreeze. That really works well on odors, without masking them. If you still smell it when it's dry, you can respray. It could take several times. Good luck!

No idea on the pen, but for the vomit smell, there's something called Kids 'N Pets that's an enzymatic cleaner that works really well on things like that- you just saturate the area and let it air-dry. I haven't bought it in awhile, but it used to be available at Wal-mart, and online as well.

Good luck!

Try rubbing alcohol for the pen, it should get it out. For the puke, try pouring straight vinegar on the stain. Start w/one cup & if that doesn't work, let it dry & try 2 next time. You can also use vinegar & try sucking it up w/a steam cleaner if you've got one. Hauling it outside to dry will help too & it'll dry faster. Vinegar (ended up using 1/2 bottle by the time I was done) was the only thing that got the smell out of my van seat when my 10 year old peed it on a road trip. Things might stink like vinegar, but isn't that better than stale puke?
Good luck!

D., I can't help you about the pen marks... but here's something you can try for the, um, aroma. Go to your local pet store (yes!) and pick up a product called Nature's Miracle. It's for pet "problems" on carpets and other places, and it doesn't just work for pets! You must soak the area with it, so you'll need a few hours for it to dry; but once it dries, the smell should be gone. This isn't an absolute guarantee that it'll work, but it's certainly worth trying! (I just read the other responses, particularly about the hairspray for the ink marks. I'll have to try that one! Maybe you CAN teach an old grandma new tricks!)
