Two Periods in One Month

Okay I don't understand ... Is it possible to have two periods in one month?!?!? After I had my baby (4 months ago) and my cycle started getting all crazy.
Ever since I can remember my menstural cycle always was 7 days, even after my first and now my cycle is 2-3 days very VERY light and every two weeks. I don't understand could it be the form of birth control pills that I am taking?
With my last I did change OB/GYN, and I know that every doctor has its own way of things but, even now I recall after the labor and everything was done and I came and I stopped bleeding.
Now I know that every is different, but menstrual cycles change as well?? My mother says that it is not possible to have two periods a months, but that is what I am having.
At first when I realized that I bled two weeks apart I thought it was because I started having again with my husband and well it hurt. My husband and I stopped having sex when I was 4 months and well I assumed that it was that. And now I know that every after sex I don't bleed. It was only that one time.
I don't know anyone out there with the same problem or a doctor even that can more or less tell me what I have. Because the last time I ever had a period for only 2 days and was Very light is was when I found out I was pregnant, and now I KNOW I am not pregnant, so HELP!!!!

So What Happened?

First of all I would like to thank everyone who responded to my request. I was a little scared to even see the doctor today but everything is all right. Thank God! The reason for the two periods in one month was the birth control that I was taking. Since I was breastfeeding my son the doctor had prescribed me a low dose that wouldn't harm my milk. I didn't know that one pill can scare the life out of me. Once again thank you for everyone who responded. Hopefully now with the new prescription my cycle goes back to normal.

It's not uncommon for a woman to have strange periods after delivering a baby. Your hormones can be out of line. Anyway, you need to tell your OB/Gyn what's going on with you. He may simply give you a prescription for birth control pills to regulate your periods or you may need a D & C to clean out leftover material from your placenta. It's best to see a doctor about this.

Your period can change after each child. Mine was extra heavy after my first child and I used to get it about every 3 weeks or so and it lasted 7 to 9 days. Not fun. Now after my second child it is lighter. It can also change due to the hormones in the birth control you are taking. My birth control method made me have my period for 6 weeks straight this time, then it was every 2 weeks for for a couple of months and now finally it's getting normal and I'm having it once a month. It can take a while to adjust but if you want to find out for sure, call your OBGYN and verify. You could try switching to another method as well.

Go see you OB/GYN asap. Irregularities in mentruation can be signs of more serious problems or at the very least can lead to anemia. Don't let yourself get run done. Usually, the problem is easily handled.

I have the same problem. I know it's probably from the pills, but I hate it too, especially in the summer when I want to go swimming. It's been 7 years since I was pregnant, so I know it's not related to that. I've been to 2 doctors many times, and had some tests but they still weren't able to tell me anything. They said the lining was thicker than normal, but there's nothing wrong, no fibroids or anything. Over the last few years, I have tried many different pills with the same results- Yasmin, Orthotricyclen, Loestrin 24, and Loestrin 28 to name a few. The "spotting" mid-cycle is usually lighter than my real period, but sometimes it lasts more days. And I get the bloating, cramping, headaches, etc twice a month too. However, the reason I continue to take the pills is to keep the PMS under control. Before, when I would get just one period, it was so bad I would be crying for hours for no reason and my husband wouldn't want me to be around my son like that. Now, it happens twice a month but not as severe. I haven't tried stopping the pills to see what happens, but eventually I will because there's more risks to it when I'm getting older.
Good luck, I hope you find an answer!

I'm not sure about the 2 periods a month thing, but my menstrual cycle has changed after each child. I now have a lighter, shorter period. It took a while for my period to get back in sync after having a child as well. It's only been 4 months since you've had your baby, so I think your body is still adjusting. I would talk to your doctor about the birth control though, just to see if that might be the cause.

It may very well me the pill you are on. I started taking a mini pill (progesterone only) after I had my daughter since I was nursing and no period at all of the first 4 months. Then when she started weaning I started having a period every 2 weeks - it's called breakthrough bleeding but to me it's a nightmare. My doc said this is normal for some people on this pill. I am switching to a regular pill (ortho cyclen) this week but she said it still may take a few months for my cycle to reregulate. It's no fun but this kind of thing is "normal" so you are probably fine. I would check with your doc about switching pills and see if that helps.

Irregular periods are common with BC pills. I have talked to some women who bleed all month. Your body may adjust, or it may not.

I would switch to a different form of birth control. Maybe your body doesn't adjust well to it or something. It sounds like your body is fighting the response it should have to the pill, which is shorter and lighter periods. Maybe there isn't enough hormone to work well for you.

It's normal for your cycles to be crazy after giving birth. It takes a while for them to normalize. And yes, i think it could be totally different just as each pregnancy is different. A call to your OB/GYN might help your fears, but I really think it's part of the normalizing.
