Hello,
I am a mother of 7 month old twins and my husband I have decided to "sleep train" our twin boys. We had to bite the bullet and have them CIO. It was the hardest thing but with twin boys and a 22 month old daughter something needed to change. I was so exhausted!!

Right now they both wake up once to feed however, they wake up at different times. one may wake up at 11:30 pm and the other at 2:30am (like they did last night) they go to bed at 6:00ish and one will get up at 5:30am and the other at 6:00am.

I have read that at this age babies should at least sleep 6 hours without a feeding...so does that mean I should ignore the one baby and let him cry and have him wait longer to eat? (the last feed is about 6:oopm). One night he woke up at 9:00pm and let him cry and he then woke up at 3:30am to eat. I am wondering if the wake up times get be sync so I do not have to wake up twice to do a feed? Or is that too much to ask for :)

I should be happy where we are right now b/c they were getting up so much. I just want to continue on a path for good sleeping for all of us.

Thanks for the advice!
J.

So What Happened?

Thank you for all that responded. So far the twin only wake up once at night. It was really hard hearing them both CIO but now at least the are sleeping a lot better. Just waiting till we get a full night sleep but I am not going to complain..getting up once to eat I can live with!

Thank you all again!!

hello i have 1 year twins boy and girl and i learn if i want to sleep a little more i need to have the bedtime and feeding at the same time for both babies, the feeding schedule was night feedings at 8:00 pm and then 1:00am and 5 am if one was hungry and the other one sleeping i finish giving the bottle to the one hungry babies and then after p put the baby to sleep i wake the other baby to eat that way both sleep and eat at the same time .my babies don't sleep for more than 5 hourswithout feeding .also try to do everything at the same time feedings,bath... is a lot more easy and you will be less tired

Hi

I mostly woke up the other one though I could fed them at the same time. Tandem nusring was faster than feeding alone. This way I would get more sleep.

At month we also gave them cereal at around 7 pm and they only woke up once at night. I also fed them very often during the day to fill them up. Sometimes every 2h.
I tried for a while feeding them only if they wake up, but it just keeps you exhausted.

Good luck.

One thing we did was a "dream feed" from the Baby Whisperer book, which was about 10:30 we picked up sleeping baby, fed while they stayed asleep, and then put them back to bed. cut out the need to wake up to eat.

I totally recommend the baby whisperer, and her books do have a section for multiples, although I didnt read them, having a singleton myself.

At this age I didn't put my kids down until around 8:00 or 8:30 maybe... they were definately sleeping through the night, but they were getting their last feeding at 8:00 or so. They were both breastfed and were sleeping through the night (10 hours straight) quite early (one at 6 weeks and one at almost 3 mos.) At their age they should go atleast 6 hours if not more. Maybe if you gave them their last feeding an hour or two later (gradually move it back) they would be able to last longer (atleast the one who is waking up earlier). Also, have you started solids yet? Sometimes this helps with filling them up longer which helps them sleep better. I would say that at this point they may be waking up out of habit as much as hunger... you should be able to train the one baby to hold out longer... If I were you I would endure a little sleep training/crying to get them in sync. It won't hurt them and it will benefit everyone in the long run. Good Luck!!

My twins are almost a year and a half. I don't know if it's too late to start this, but we always woke the other twin up for a feeding. Whenever one cried to eat, we'd feed both. It saved us from waking up six times a night.

6 PM is a little early to put them to bed. What time to you expect them to wake up in the morning? I would think they would be eating dinner around 6, then play time, bath and a snack. Bed around 9 and they should sleep the night. Give them water if they wake up and nothing else. At 7 months they should sleep the night without food unless they are only getting breast milk or formula. If so its time to start cereal and give it to them right before bed. Fills their tummies and takes longer to digest.

I have 15months twins... and a 2 1/2 yr old toddler.
Seriously, I went thru this until the twins hit 1 yr.
Around 9months, I reached out everywhere to find out how to get these cuties to sleep all night.
If the babies gain weight and progress normally, there is no reason they can't sleep 10 hours, or more. At 1y old, my twins finally started sleeping 12 hours .. 7pm-7am...
I also fed them oatmeal or rice cereal at night to help keep them full.
I followed the advice from my pediatrician.... he said to comfort the baby when he/she wakes up,, but no food.. put them back to bed.
Then go back in 5 minutes if they are still crying.
Comfort them again, and leave them again without a feeding.
then go back in 10 minutes.. then 20, then 40.
The point is to let the babies know you are there for them... BUT also they have to learn they are not getting food in the middle of the night.
This is, at least partially, from some baby book.. but I forgot the name of the book because I never bought it.
For my older toddler, this worked in 2 days, back when he was 3 months old.
For my twins, I first had to separate them into two separate bedrooms.. Then, one baby(girl) was sleeping until 4am in a couple of days.... but it wasn't consistent. My other twin (boy) took a week before he slept thru the night for the first time..wihout any wakeup.
I will say this process reduced the stress on mom and dad within a week... and was the light of hope at that time. It still took a few weeks to get things in decent sleep patterns.
My twins still didn't sleep great until 1 yr, but my toddler was getting up and crying in the hallway. I think he was waking up the babies sometimes, so it's hard to be sure how long the process really took ...
Don't wait... good luck!!
