Hello Moms- I had my television repaired about 2 months ago to the tune of $650 by Ace's TV repair on Buckner. On Saturday, our television clicked off and when it came back on, there was a gigantic red, blue, yellow splotch in the middle of it and after it has been on for awhile, the picture will fade and it will turn off. I am thinking that I am going to have to go to court because they came to our house and told us there might not be anything that they can do, even though it is having the same problem it had before they fixed it. Does anyone know the process of taking someone to court for something like this?

Hi S., I'm having the same problems with my TV. It's the new hdtv box that's causing the trouble. I don't know if you have an antena or cable or what but just thought I'd share that in case you have the new box for HDTV.

First work with them and then go to the court house and file a small claims court complaint. You can also check with the BBB to see if they are accredited. G. W

Wow...2 months the tv worked. Them saying there might not be anything they can do to fix it tells me they are trying to keep you from throwing more money into this tv set. You should be hugging them for not just fixing it again and charging you again. And why would you blame the service company? They fixed it and it worked for 2 months so it has nothing to do with them. It's the parts for the tv that are not lasting! Did you ask them if there was some sort of warrantly on the parts they used?

Hey, if it's the new kind of tv's, they really don't last like you would hope they do. Something to consider - does your tv have room to breath? Heat causes the most damage to tv's. We have added a fan after our tv repair and now have air that circulates around the back of the tv while in our entertainment center.

The other gal is right - they warned you about future repairs. In order to sue, you have to prove negligence or that they tried to swindle you which it doesn't sound like they did. If they gave you an estimate the first time and you said "yes." you agreed to the repair and the expense.

We went through this ourselves a few months back. Pay for the repair of buy a new tv. We are thankful the repair stuck.

PS: You can always get a 2nd opinion but of course you might have to pay for that (est $60).

Check to see if they are a BBB member. Regardless file a complaint with the BBB. It's free and they are very helpful. I've had success with getting companies to respond after I've filed a complaint with the BBB. Good luck.

I agree with the other response. Besides, you could take this to court and the repair company could explain the damage as either a separate issue, or in a way that proves the issue is not the result of a poor repair, but inherent vice. It could be more trouble than it is worth. Unless you are technically capable of explaining otherwise you might be spinning your wheels and funds. I think word of mouth is going to be more detrimental to them and less of a hassle for you.

Wow, you must have an expensive TV to pay a repair cost of $650. I would not put anymore money into this TV by repairing it or taking them to court. As someone else said, I would try to work with the repair people if you feel they are honest. I would talk to the owner or someone higher up about the problems you are expeniencing. If that effort fails, I would report them to the BBB and buy a new TV. We had a 2 year old TV that suddenly had problems and the repair shop was nice enough to try to fix it for a $50 nonrefundable charge and if that failed they wouldn't charge us anymore unless we agreed to it. Well, of course, the manufacturing defect couldn't be fixed without spending lots of money(Toshiba wouldn't fix it or even return our emails)which the TV wasn't even worth, so we chalked it up to lesson learned-Never buy a Toshiba product again. I can give you the name of the repair shop we used. Just let me know if you would like it.

You can just file a suit at the court house in civil court yourself. The clerks are usually really good about walking you through what to do. Also, file a complaint with the BBB. A repair should last longer than 2 months. Since the TV is having the same problem, you might be able to get your money back. You just have to prove it is more likely than not that they did not fix the TV properly.

I hate to tell you this, but a brand new TV will probably cost less than going to court would cost. It is a civil lawsuit - and you would have to pay for all of it.

Instead, write up a nasty news article, send it to them, and tell them you are going to send it in to the Dallas Morning News, and to www.neighborsgo.com for them to publish.

Also, call the BBB and let the business know you intend to do make the call if they don't help you out. Also, tell them you have access to a popular Mom's forum online and you will tell all the moms to never go to their business.

Bad press is something a business NEVER needs - especially now.
