Tummy Issues

Hi moms!
I've been losing weight (with a bunch to go) and will have some extra tummy skin left. Has anyone had success in getting rid of the extra skin once the weight is gone? Is a tummy tuck the only real way to go?

What can I do next?

I have had no luck but my issues are probably due to three c sections i have had. But i do know if there is skin just hanging with no fat behind it a tummy tuck is the only way. Good luck!!

I just wanted to say congrats on your weight loss so far :) I know how hard it can be. I am curious about it too. Awhile back I lost about 100 lbs. (unfortunately I have gained about 50 of it back in the last two years, but that's a whole other post). Anyhow, that 100 lbs. was from over 300lbs. to just over 200lbs. with about 40 to 50 more lbs. to go. What I wanted to tell you was that I was terrified of the same thing. One, because I had had a baby, two because I have horrible skin elasticity to begin with, and three because I was so very obese. It took me close to 1 1/2 years, and my tummy, though no where near as great looking the last time a I weighed 200 lbs. (my stomach is the last place I gain weight) it did not look nearly as bad as I had imagined. Had I succeeded in getting to my goal weight I'm sure it would have had loose skin, but probably not tummy tuck worthy. I was also exercising both cardio and strength throughout my weight loss. Hope this helps, andd good luck in your weight loss journey...hang in. Happy New Year!!

If you (according to your post) have "a bunch" of weight left "to go", then be patient and wait to make any sort of decision until you have reached your goal weight.

If you are only doing cardio to lose weight, then you will never get that flat look you're hoping for. Make sure that you are also eating clean (eating a healthy balanced diet full of natural foods and no processed junk) and most definitely including strength training.

Spot training is a myth - you cannot do anything special (foods, diets, exercises) to reduce fat/skin in a certain area. The skin can shrink slowly if you lose the weight slowly, and losing weight slowly is the healthiest way to do it. Abs are good, but you have to make sure that you are eating a clean diet and including cardio.

I have to echo the other poster. If you've got extra skin left over, it's not likely to go away on it's own.
I have this problem as my belly got huge during pregnancy. I have everything back, including my muscle tone, but have loose skin around my belly button that's a permanent fixture.

As the other poster said, when it's just skin hanging there with no fat behind it, surgery is the only thing that's going to get rid of it. Sorry to bear the bad news!
