My nephew is 10 months old and hes been suffering with ear infections. They decided to put tubes in his ears. Has anyone's child ever had this done and what can they expect?

What can I do next?

hello and welcome to the area! i recently just moved here a mth ago from greensboro, nc and am originally fr ny. my daughter is 5 yrs old and has 2 sets of tubes put in her ears. her first set was put in when she was rather small, i believe about 1 or 2. her last set was just put in march of last year. there was a great decrease in the ear infections was was a relief. she was having them almost every single month and they were very extreme. her ear drum were infected and wld actually rupture and drain each time. as you could imagine, i had to spen a lot of time away from work due to this so it was s rough time. the first set fell out on their own and she began to slowly have the infections again. since they have been in this last time there has only been a time or two i can remember, so thats very good. i had a hard time understanding why they wld need to replaced, and it took a long time for me to decide to do the surgery again because they say the risks are higher the second time around being that she was older. some doctors also say that the adnoids should be removed as well. hopefully you find this info helpful, good luck! oh, and about me, im a 23 yr old mother of 1. im new to the area and would like to meet many new friends.

Ear Tubes are a wonderful invention. My son suffered with 8 ear infections in 10 months- 8 different antibiotics. It was horrible. He had tubes put in his ears at 14 months- what a tremendous difference. We had no idea that the fluid in his ears was causing speech delay and he was not hearing us clearly. Tubes are great and I highly recommend them.

My son had tubes put in both ears at the age of 14 months. The surgery was over in less than 5 minutes. It was quick and painless and once it was done you could see that he was much better off. He could hear us when we called his name and after 6 months we have not had 1 ear infection. They are the best invention.

Tubes were great for our family. My son had one ear infection after another and never had another one after the tubes. The procedure is quick and easy and nothing to worry about.

Your nephew will be fine after he gets the tubes put in.My daughter now almost 4 got tubes when she was around 18 months.i can honestly say they are a life saver because she kept an ear infection..anyways right after the tubes are in the children are real whiny at least for around 30-45 mins but it seemed after that it was back to normal..
