Tubal Ligation: Curious and Concerns

I am 30 days into a cycle. After the birth of my son (16 months), I had a tubal ligation since we are not planning on having any more children. I had a few weird cycles until February when it seemed to normalize to 24-26 day cycles. This month I am again having a weird cycle. I have a lot of pain in my lower abdomen. I think it is probably just cyst from what I have read, but I never had cystic issues before I had my tubal.

I am wanting to know if any of you have had a tubal ligation and still gotten pregnant? If so, how long after the tubal did you get pregnant? I don't want this to happen and know the numbers are low, but I'm curious. Also, if you have had a tubal, do you have painful cycles/ weird cycles/etc... ?

Thank you for your answers!

Apparently this screws with my brain too... In February, I had asked about the pain thing with tubals... Yep it's me again... I went to the dr back then who didn't seem too concerned. After my cycles got back to normal for 3 months.. this happens and I'm back to get more answers. Please be patient with this overly tired mom and if you feel up to it, give me a bit more info...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for baring with me... I do so much appreciate your answers. I am not pregnant. I took a test to relieve that concern. Still have the pain. I assume it is a cyst of some kind since the eggs can't travel down the tubes. I will contact the OB this next week. Thank you again!

After my tubal I would have random pains in my lower abdomen. Sort of like phantom ovary pains. I have since learned that these pains are part of my body still trying to go through a normal cycle.

Painful cycles can also be a sign of endometriosis. I had this also. Mine was discovered through an ultrasound.

A friend had something similar and for her has learned that she had a thyroid issue. For that she changed her diet to lessen the gluten and her thyroid issue and abdominal pains have improved.

Hi Jodi,

I also had a tubal (at the birth if my son) and had very heavy periods after. When my son was about 2, I had my uterus cauterized to help with the bleeding. It helped for a bit, then it got bad again.

During an annual check-up 2 years later, I told my OB/GYN that I had pain in my lower abdomen and the bleeding was so bad that I couldn't leave the house the first day. He did an ultrasound and found that my uterus was full of endometrial (bloody) cysts. They can get very large, as big (or bigger) as a grapefruit. At this point, it gets pretty dangerous so I had to have my blood drawn every 3 weeks, while also seeing an oncologist, to have my blood checked for cancer, until a hysterectomy could be scheduled.

My bit of advice; if you feel that things aren't right and your Doc is waving it off, get a second opinion. There is a reason for pain.

I would definitely get it checked out. If you ARE pregnant, than there is a high likelihood that it would be an ectopic pregnancy.

I got pregnant (with my fourth child) after a tubal. It was nearly three years later. In the meantime, I did not have any pain or any weird cycles. I would not assume they are related and think you should get a second opinion.

A tubal should have no bearing on cycles. Still have your ovaries. As we get older things change. Go back to doc if you think something is not right.

Jodi:

Personally? I would go back to my OB/GYN and if they didn't do an ultra sound or check to see what's going on - blood tests, etc. I would seek out a second opinion.

I had my tubes tied and the uterine ablation done at the same time. So I didn't have regular cycles after that - heck - I didn't have regular cycles in the first place!! :)

Could be several things....

pregnancy
endometriosis
cysts

I would go to a doctor and get checked out!! Good luck!

yes I had very few moments of abdomen pain here and there, but some periods are just normal as can be and light and no cramps. It has only been 7 mths for me since done.
I would go to the dr as well to get an exam or xray. it does sound like endometriosis. My friend has it and it kicks you in the butt during periods or when you ovulate. So it could just be that you need some excerise or some meds to help shrink it to be comfortable. So hope you can get it.....
