TTC #2: Infertility Due to Blocked Tubes

Any other moms out there that have had secondary infertility issues? We have a dd who is 7 born via c-section in 2000. We have been ttc since 2003. I knew something was wrong because my periods were lasting over 35 days and they were really heavy but didn't have the guts to seek help..until recently. I'm almost 35 and I think my biological clock is ticking.

Finally in November I decided to see and ask my Ob-Gyn for advice. She recommended me to a local RE. It was the best thing I did. My dh's SA came back normal. My blood work was a little off- I was ovulating late in my cycle. First he scheduled an HSG and they found out that I had a blocked left fallopian tube and a partially blocked right tube.

So I had 2 things going on, the blocked tubes, and a hormonal imbalance.

In 12/2007 I had a laparoscopic hysteroscopy and he was able to flush out my tubes! Thank goodness.

In 1/2008, I started on Clomid 100 mg d5-10. then Ovidrel trigger shot d14.

Then my doctor recommended TI for 3 days after that with blood work scheduled for 2/8.

Anyone else been in the same boat and conceive?

I have suffered through secondary fertility twice which were some of the worst times in my life. I too had blocked tubes and hormone problems. I commend your gyn for sending you to an RE..they can do wonders. In my fertilty life I have had two HSG's and two laps, 6 failed clomid cycles, 9 medicated IUI's and 3 medicated IVF's. My second son came via IVF as did my twins. It is not easy...hang in there.

Hi C.!
I am in your same boat! YEARS ago, I had some "concerning" symptoms including overly long periods, irregular hormone levels, etc. In straightening that all out, it was discovered that I my tubes had significant blockage. Like you, they were able to clean out my tubes (although it did sound like a different type procedure). After that I was told that I would most likely need "some intervention" when trying to conceive. I was young and unmarried at that point, so it didn't concern me much.

A few years later, when I got engaged to my husband, we decided to start trying about 4 months before we got married thinking it would probably take a while. Well, I was 4 months pregnant at the wedding!! With my next 2 children, there was no "trying" either. I have had no problems conceiving at all!

I know that everyone is different and your experience may not be the same, but I just wanted to give you a nice positive story so that you know that it does happen.

Good luck to you and may everything just shoot down those tubes no problem!! :-)

I have not, but my best friend had...and just delivered a healthy baby boy 12 days ago! She also has a 5 year old daughter they conceived naturally. But they had tried for over a year, alomost 2 maybe, and finally got some tests done and found that she had a blocked tube, they didnt flush hers ( I dont believe) however her and her husband did the fertility drugs and were pregnant immediatly, seriously, in like 3 days and she was even queasy. So keep your hopes up and good luck!

Hi C.,
I have been in a similiar boat! After IVF for anovulatory issues (endometriosis based), I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. I then became septic from an unknown abscessing ovary due to OHSS. Long story short, I had major surgery to remove the abcess which included removal of one ovary and left tube. Left with one ovary and one tube, having been for 10 years "infertile and anovulatory", I got pregnant! I now have an 11 week old baby boy.
Keep the faith-
C.
