My good friend lost 3 babies. She and her family researched and she has bloodwork done and determined that her progesterone levels were too low to sustain pregnancy. She asked her OBGYN to prescribe progesterone to her, and her OBGYN refused. Apparently there's differing schools of thought and practice in OB when it comes to progesterone. My friend called and said "prescribe it to me, or I'm going to go elsewhere." So her OBGYN had a change of heart and prescribed it. 6 weeks later, she was pregnant. She just made it to 12 weeks and baby has a strong heartbeat.

So....maybe talk to a different OBGYN?

WELCOME TO MAMAPEDIA!!

You need to go see an endocrinologist and a fertility specialist. You will most likely have to go through a lot of testing - chromosomal and blood as well as an HSG (Hystogram) to check out your uterus and fallopian tubes.

What "PILL" are you on? You realize when you say "pill" many people automatically assume Birth Control Pill. If you are taking Progesterone, it's usually done via a suppository, and it can only work in the first trimester as it prevents the uterus from contracting.

You really need to get testing done. I'm really sorry you are going through this.

When I was having multiple miscarriages...it was multiple issues...so if I hadn't gone to an RE (reproductive endocrinologist) we probably wouldn't have kids.

I had a genetic mutation, hormones that were too low, AND a structural issue that needed surgery to repair. And we thought it might be my husband's genes...nope.

Ask your OB to refer you to an RE. Mine did after our fourth miscarriage, we had our fifth while working with the RE and then I had one between our two kids.

Sending you a big hug!!

I am sorry for your losses. It is h*** o* you both physically and mentally to go through multiple miscarriages.

I had 5 miscarriages or more and it took me a very long time to have a successful pregnancy. I saw a leading infertility specialist who determined I had antiphosphid lipid syndrome. It's a blood disorder where I produce blood clots only when pregnant. He caught it with my daughter when I developed a clot and he saw it on sono. I was placed on bed rest at 6 weeks with heparin shots twice a day and I don't know who was more happy when I delivered.

I had given up on getting pregnant. I finally felt true peace about not having children. I thought my daughter was a bladder infection actually. I had gone through years of testing and different therapies to no avail. I'm not sure if my giving up and realizing I could make peace with not having children had anything to do with it. I just wanted to share with you my experience.

Blessings and hugs to you!
L.

You need to see a fertility specialist.
It could be anything - something with you and/or your husband or a combination of things between you - and a fertility specialist should be able to help figure out how to overcome what problems you are having.

If you're on the pill (it sound like Clomid?) and the shot (trigger shot?), it sounds like you already seeing a fertility specialist. If it's just your OB giving you that, then you need to see a fertility specialist. The progesterone suppositories are usually the key if it's a hormonal imbalance. How old are you? If you're trying to conceive in your late 30's/early 40's egg quality becomes an issue. If that's the problem, there isn't much you can do about that without going through IVF. With that many miscarriages, something it's definitely going on.

With me, it was progesterone.
Docs in the practice were divided on that theory, but with progesterone suppositories in the first trimester, I carried to term.
Just a thought. (Although I'm not sure what you mean by being "on the shot and the pill...")

I am in the same boat as you :( I have 3 little boys and have miscarried 6 times. With all three healthy pregnancies I have been on progesterone. I just found out I pregnant again and my blood work showed my progesterone at 5.3, my docs thought it was too late to give my progesterone and that miscarraige would be inevitable. I begged for it and we checked again two days later and my hcg doubled progesterone went up to 6.3 still very low. So upped the progesterone and now just a waiting game.

This is a good article to inform. If you try red raspberry leaf tea be sure it's the leaves not the bags and brewed slowly and long enough to get a rich color and take it plain or with honey or some other natural sweetner. You'll want to take a quart a day to strengthen and nurture your body. I've known this tea to do wonders even when you're not pregnant. I've known several women who drank one to two quarts a day during their whole pregnancy and afterwards.

I'm sure your body needs time. Also, it's important to let yourself relax about this and not worry. There is always a reason for everything. And when you get pregnant just rest and don't let yourself think about it just take it a little at a time each day. Don't rush off to the doc or tell everyone or brood on it, just go on with your days quietly and calmly.

Sending good thoughts for you.

One of my good friends went through secondary infertility after having no problem getting (and staying) pregnant her first child. She had 2 first-trimester miscarriages and a loss at 22 weeks. They did IUI, progesterone, etc.

While taking a bit of a break before doing IVF, she started acupuncture (on the advice of her RE, sort of in the spirit of "it can't hurt so why not try this") and to her surprise, she got pregnant naturally. She did take the progesterone during that first trimester as a precaution. Her son just turned 5 this week! She heartily recommends that anyone struggling with infertility try acupuncture in addition to modern medicine.

Best of luck to you...I have a lot of friends whose children were born after having miscarriage after miscarriage. I hope you get some answers and a healthy pregnancy soon!

Everyone's body is so unique, as well as the pregnancy they are carrying. It's hard to make recommendations for you personally.

I am very very sorry to hear about your multiple miscarriages and the toll it must be taking on you physically, emotionally and spiritually and relationally with your husband.

I have a girlfriend who lost 8 babies before going on to have 3 healthy children. So you are not alone.

Make you eat super healthy, rest, hydrate. Have you considered Accupuncture or Accupressure?

And of course what Wild said...you should be working with an infertility specialists by now.

Hi,
I'm so sorry about your miscarriages. I am wondering if you have been checked for a genetic mutation that afflicts a lot of people and is known to cause miscarriages. The gene where the mutation occurs is called MTHFR. It results in an inability to process certain forms of folic acid and methylation in general. It can be greatly helped by taking a a supplement called methylfolate but dosing is important and needs to be adjusted to the individual. It is a complicated issue so having your doctor do the testing is best. If your OBGYN is not aware or willing to geneticlly test you, find another doctor. It is critical to your health and the health of the fetus if this is your issue. If you want to do it yourself 23andme had a home testing kit which gives you raw data but then you have to run it through and internet program for results. Google the Gene and there is a lot of information on the internet. Good Luck I hope this helps!

I took progesterone when I was trying to get pregnant and until about 12 weeks into my pregnancies. I had the same issues of being able to maintain and sustain a pregnancy.

Hopefully u have a good OB and you can talk with them about your options. If you don't, it's time to find a new one.
