Trying to Get Pregnant After Birth Control

My husband and I have decided to go for an other baby! I was on the shot for 2 years with no period. I switched 6 months ago from the shot to Orthotricyclen Lo to kinda jump start ovulation because I read it was hard for some to conceive after the shot. When I switched to the pill I didn't have a period for 2 months but have had 1 the last 4 months. I figured since I've had a couple periods we should start trying. I want to know how long did it take to get pregnant if you were on the shot then switched to the pill then stopped taking the pill?

What can I do next?

You have stopped taking the pill too right? I haven't had a baby in almost 6 yrs, but I thought the recommendation was to be off pills, shots, whatever for 3 months before you tried to conceive. Switching to the pill you weren't jump starting ovulation, just jump starting your period. The whole point of the shot, implant, or pill is to prevent ovulation. If you're still using birth control (other than condoms or diaphram) you're not ovulating and you won't get pregnant.

I never took the shot, but a couple of friends of mine who did got pregnant within 6 months after stopping the shots. They didn't switch to the pill first, they just stopped getting the shots, so I don't know if that made a difference or not.

I was on the pill for years and within 6 weeks of stopping the pill I was pregnant. But I know it can take a couple of months. If you're ready for another baby just stop taking all birth control and start having lots of sex :) I'm betting it'll happen sooner rather than later :)

Good luck and congrats.

I was on the shot, for almost 2 yrs. I also had no periods, even after I had stopped. We got prgnant almost a year after I stopped recieving the shot. Of course, we were in no hurry, just knew we wanted #3. I have read stories of women who took years to get prgnant after they stopped depo, others took just a couple monthes. It all depends on your body. I wish you all the luck on trying to concieve. Just relax and enjoy the ride. Try not to stress. :)

I didn't switch to the pill, but after stopping the shot, I was pregnant 4 months later. Unfortunately had a miscarriage, but became pregnant with my son 5 months after that. Hope things go well for you! Of course between number one son and number two son, we didn't use birth control at all and they are 4 1/2 years a part!

I don't know specifically about the shot-then-pill issue. I'll just say that I was very worried about getting pregnant after being on the pill for years. I got pregnant with twins about 30 seconds after I stopped the Pill! I was so sure it would take at least a few months that I didn't even plan for the possibility of it working right away! I think the bottom line is that you are unique; there's some info about averages, but there's no way to know where you'll fall along the spectrum. Best of luck!!

I was on Depo for 3 yrs. I came off of it right after I got married. I was having periods like clockwork, but could not get pregnant. It took me 2 months shy of 4yrs to finally get pregnant. You can be having periods, but not ovulating yet. There is not much you can do after the shot, but wait it out. It just depends on how fast it gets out of your system. It WILL get out of your system, eventually. Good luck! Hopefully you are one of those people who can get pregnant quickly after the shot, but don't give up if it takes a while!

I pretty much did the same thing! I had been on depo for years but when we got married switch to Ortho Tricyclen because I knew we were going to want to try for a baby at some point in the near future. My cycle took to the pill immediately. When we decided to start trying for a baby, I finished my pack of pills and just didn't start another one. I did start tracking my BBT and found I ovulated that first month off the pill, just like clockwork. My 3rd month off the pill was our 1st month actually trying (I wanted my body to have 2 months of no birth control before trying), and we got pregnant that month!
