Trying to Find a MOPS Group

I am a first time mom of a five month old little boy and I'm trying to get involved in a MOPS group. My two older sisters have gone in CA and loved it. The problem is how do you register? I have contacted numerous churches that have the groups meet there and they give basic information dates and times. But I don't want to just show up. I need to know about childcare as well. I'm starting to feel like this is some secret society and it shouldn't be this hard. Does anyone know about the group that meets at Plymouth Haven Baptist Church on Fort Hunt Road?

Hello S.,

Go to http://www.mops.org/ , go to the Groups link on the lefthand side, and click How to Join Group. It should walk you through it. You should be able to put in your zip code and several churches near your home will appear. You can just pick which denomination you prefer. Not to worry about not attending the church either, a friend of mine told me that not all of the mothers that join a group within a church are active members. Good luck and blessing to you and your family!
I hope you find good fellow Christians that you'll be able to form strong bonds with. Take care!

Dear S.,

Registering for MOPS is SoOOOOO easy! Just go to MOPS.org and punch in your zip code and the web site will tell you of a MOPS group meeting location nearest you! From there you can go to that groups web site and log on/register. I just registered on line this year for my mops group - took 2 minutes! :) I am in Annandale and attend MOPS at Immanuel Bible Church at Backlick & Braddock Roads. I would be happy to meet you for coffee, kids and all, and just get together and talk. :) Feel free to email me anytime :) [email protected]____.com

Here is the information I found on that MOPS group:

"Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) meet monthly on the 2nd & 4th Thursdays at 9:30am from Sept.-May. Food, fun, discussion & crafts are offered. Plymouth Haven Baptist Church, Ft. Hunt
Rd. For more info. or reservations call 703/360-4259."

I never ended up going, but saved this information on my computer.

I hope this helps!

S.,
Hope you've gotten in contact with the group! Yeah it's hard to reach an actualy MOPS member during the sumemr since MOPS meets during the "school" year. Normally you just get the church's secretary, thats why you get just basic info. Did you ask for an e-mail? Ask for the coordiator or MOPPETS e-mail, that way you get e-mail then talk to a person that knows about the group etc. Most MOPS groups are daytime groups and provice childcare, dpending on the size of the group and how many kids there are there can be a waiting list. I promise though MOPS is not a secret society! I joined one when my daughter was 10 months old, and I love it. Actually I go to a daytime MOPS group and an evening one. They are very different from each other but both provide the support I need for raising a 3 yr old.
I'm not sure where Fort Hunt Road is but I'd like to invite you to Immanuel Bible Church's MOPS group, it is in the evening so there unfortunately in no childcare. (Some moms do bring there little ones if they can't get a sitter). Their first meeting is Sept 7th 7pm-9pm. It's nice though to not have kids around or be able to hear them. This MOPS group is a larger one so you can attend your first meeting for free, if you totally hate it then no obligations! There's always great food and deserts. They don't really do crafts but there's always a speaker, discussion time and ice breakers etc. Plus they have some nice giveaways. Here's the website for more info http://www.immanuelbible.net/family/parenting/mops.php
Good Luck!

S.,
I attend First Baptist Church of Alexandria (on King Street between old town and 395). They have a great MOPS group and I think some members live near Fort Hunt Road. I am not a member but know some of the moms. I work at the preschool (which is great!) during the day and cannot attend the meetings. http://www.fbcalexandria.org/pages/page.asp?page_id=486 should be a link to get you to the MOPS information page. If that doesn't work just go to www.fbcalexandria.org search for MOPS. The first file is the information page and the contact name, Barbara Eliff, and her email address will be there. I would email Barbara and tell her you are interested in registering you and your child. You can even register and pay online if you want to.
I hope this helps. Or call the Women's Ministry Office at ###-###-####. I know there is a limit to the number in the group so I would inquire ASAP.
Have a great day!
J.
