Trying to Find a Good OB/GYN near Christiana

Hi all -
I'm trying to find a good OB who does deliveries at Christiana Hospital. I'm 14 weeks pregnant with our first baby, and we just moved to the area a couple of weeks ago. I just met the Doctor at the practice I had chosen (it's a single doctor practice) for the first time today, and I don't think I want to stay there. I had a previous appointment with a nurse there 2 weeks ago and she was good - but I'm really not comfortable with the Doctor. She was so brusque, didn't knock when she came in the room (I had barely gotten the gown on) - ordered me around and didn't tell me why she was doing anything, and then was gone in the blink of an eye after telling me to come back in 4 weeks. I know doctors in this day and age are rushed, but she didn't even introduce herself and this was my first appointment with her. I had some questions I wanted to ask but was so surprised and flustered by her manner that I didn't get them out before she left. I know I need to be proactive in making sure my questions get answered/take control of the experience etc - but, I just can't imagine having this woman at my delivery.
So, all that said - if anyone can recommend an OB in the area with a little bit more bedside manner, I'd be incredibly grateful. It took us almost 3 years trying to get pregnant with this little one and I just really want the Doctor appointments to be as positive a part of the experience as possible.
Thanks so much!

Hello! I highly recommend the practice "All About Women" which is now located at the Christiana Hospital. My doctor is Dr McCraken and I thought she was great! They are very busy, so you will most likely have to wait before appts (they are quicker if you schedule right after lunch, first thing in the morning)but I never felt rushed through both my pregnancies and they were very helpful with answering questions. The are an all women practice and they schedule you with each Doctor throughout your pregnancy so you can meet them all - because you don't know which one will be on call when you deliver and I liked all of them. Hope this helps, good luck!

Hi S.

I had the same problem with my first child. Then I found All About Women. There is a # of women Dr.s in the practice and you see all of them in case your Dr isn't available at time of delivery. They are affiliated with Christiana Hospital and are very close to there. The # is ###-###-####. Hope that helps. Good Luck!!!!!

I highly recommend Dr. Robert Wisniewski at Christiana ###-###-####). I am a new patient with him and have not been through a pregnancy with him but he had excellent bedside manner and listened to all of my questions and concerns when I saw him for my annual exam. My friend had referred me to him and she is currently pregnant and has loved him. Her mom had gone to him when she had my friend's little brother. She said she has always gotten pretty much in and out at appointments with very little waiting yet he always gives her time if she has questions.

Hi..responding to your answer, there's an OB GYN doctor name Gregory Demeo,M.D. He's very nice and gentle. I don't know if you prefer a male or female doctor. But, from my experience, male doctors are more gentle, and you won't feel hurt when they check your inside. His practice is in Medical Arts Pavillion I, just outside Christiana Hospital. I don't have his phone number in hand, so maybe you can look in the yellow pages. He's really good. But I don't know what type of insurance you have, because he doesn't accept all kinds of insurance.

Sorry I'm late in responding, but I'm just reading through some of the articles on this site. I have had Dr. Hohman (sp) for years and years now and highly recommend him. I have twenty years between my children and he delivered my last child (she will be six next month). He is very caring and very into women's health issues. I also had to see another doctor due to a problem during my pregnancy and he not only called that doctor to set up an appointment, but he also followed that problem through to this day (I had to have a biopsy during my pregnancy and after delivery surgery on my thyroid). I had a c-section at my choice (my first was also a c-section) as both of my children were breech. I was an older Mom and he made sure that all the testing was made available to me and explained each one from the very beginning (genetic testing, amnio--which I declined) all the way to the end--stress testing, fluid checks (as I called them since I can't remember the name, but it's where they make sure your placenta fluid isn't leaking?) During my c-section I was laughing with my husband almost the entire time. No fear, what-so-ever. I've gone to this doctor for years and he is definitely the best OB/GYN in the area in my book.

Dr. Hohman is located in the Medical Art's Pavillion at Christiana Hospital. I had my child in Christiana Hospital and had absolutely wonderful care.

Good Luck during your pregnancy and with your new little one when he/she arrives!
