I have a almost 8yr old son and me and my husband have been trying to conceive for a while now. I have had a history of irregular periods when I was in my teens due to hormone issues due to me being obese. I lost weight and became pregnant with my son. Now me and my husband are feeling very settled and would like to have another. I just recently quit my night shift job and have been actively trying. I am not as heavy as I was when i was a teenage but still heavy. I have been of the pill for a year or so now and periods have been very regular, No other issues, everything is normal except that I have not been able to conceive since stopping my birth control. Saw my gyn and she said "take vitamins and start exercising and try to lose some weight" I am becoming very discouraged. Its hard for me. Not sure what to do except what I am doing. just looking for some words or wisdom.

What can I do next?

sounds like you also need to relax. maybe you and your husband need to go on a mini vacation and just spend time relaxing with each other. sometimes pregnancy happens when you least expect it. good luck:)

Have you ever been diagnosed with Polycystic ovarian syndrome. Once simple ultra sound can tell you whether you are or not and weight is a key factor to whether or not you can get pregnant. I know, I have it. I was diagnosed when I was 16yrs old because of a highly irregular periods. Each person that has it can have different levels of infertility. But loosing weight can be a key to getting pregnant. Basically you have a lack of progesterone, are more prone to diabetic issues because your body does not process sugars correctly. If you stay away from all sugars and carbs, eat healthy and loose some weight you will be surprised with what may happen. Even a loss of just 10lbs can get you pregnant.

How long have you been trying for? If it's been a year, then you should have a serious discussion with your doctor. If you are still significantly overweight, it will greatly reduce your chances of conception. Plus, if you do have to use fertility treatments, the risk of multiples of course increases, and being overweight with a multiple pregnancy is very dangerous for the growing babies and mother. Good luck to you and I hope you are blessed very soon with another.

Your doctor had good advice. You can also try acupuncture. =D I got acupuncture to get rid of food allergies and not only did my food allergies go away, but I lost 10 pounds and got pregnant. =D (I wasn't even trying to do either, I just wanted my food allergies taken away...)

You don't mention your age, or how long you have been trying. If you are approaching a year of trying or if you are a little older (closer to 35) then I would suggest asking your doc to refer you to a fertility specialist.

A few thoughts - you say you are trying - but are you really counting days, determining when you are ovulating and ttc within 24 hours of ovulating (usually about 14 days from the start of your last period, if your cycles are exactly 28 days apart)? If you are not sure how to do this, you can find an online calculator to determine your best days to conceive. You can also buy an ovulator test strip kit that you use 1st thing in the morning to determine when you are ovulating and the best day to ttc.

If you have been doing these things for a year with no luck, then I think you need to find a new doctor who can be more helpful. If you are approaching age 35, find the new doc sooner rather than later.
