Trusted & Caring Vet Needed in Plano Area

My parent's 14 year old toy poodle has been experiencing some type of stomach or intestinal problem for about 3 weeks now. She doesn't eat much and has been throwing up bile from time to time. She seems weak and not herself, though not whining in pain. Anyway, she went into their regular vet for a check and bloodtests. Everything looked okay except her kidneys were a little elevated above normal. The vet is now recommending (since she hasn't gotten better after time) to "flush-out" her kidneys. They are concerned about doing this procedure and I've suggested they get a second opinion. So, we need a recommendation for a very knowlegeable vet that won't JUST run tests or procedures without really knowing it will help the dog. A vet that is someone they can trust and that has lots of compassion.

My parents are in their late 60's/mid-70's, so losing their pet will be difficult...as it is for most of us. However, their dog had been in very good health for her age leading up to this recent incident.

Thanks in advance for any and all references for vets in Plano. They live close to the SpringCreek & Custer area.

I highly recommend Dr. Hanks of Hanks Animal Hospital. I am a big animal lover, and I have never found a more honest, compassionate, realistic veterinarian in my life. She once came in and brought her staff in on Sunday morning to do emergency lifesaving surgery on my favorite kitty, and not only did she save my kitty, but her bill shocked me in that it was hundreds and hundreds below what I expected! Every single experience we have had, emergency or otherwise, including euthanisia of my daughters kitty has been handled with respect, kindness and fairness to both us and our animals. I just cannot say enough nice things about her. Hanks Animal Hospital is at 1513 E. 14th Street, ###-###-####. I am sure you will not be disappointed and will find in her a vet you can truly trust. I have a great vet in Plano... he helps out with the Frisco Humane Society and I started going to him after I adopted my dog and liked him so much. His name is Dr. Brinkley at ###-###-####. His staff is really great with the dogs, and he spends as much time as you need answering questions.

Dr. Shawn Messionnier at Paws & Claws Animal Hospital(in Plano) combines alternative medicine with traditional vet. medicine. You might try him to see if he has alternatives. He's a very popular doctor and is very knowledgeable. He's written several books and has a radio show on Sirius. I don't personally go to him, so I can't speak to his doggie bedside manner. I have met him and he seems nice.

Good Luck!

I don't know what Vet your parents go to now but we used to take our dog to Legacy Animal Hospital which I believe is on the corner of Legacy and Custer. We would see Dr. Bob but we liked all the other doctors as well. We moved several years ago to Frisco and our dog passed away a year ago or we would still go there.
