I was born and raised on Cape Cod. Such a beautiful place, beaches galore. And so many B&Bs!! There are also some great hotels (our friends own the Cape Point, which is nice).

Think about the Cape - it isn't much farther from RI!!

My husband is from Rhode Island and I lived there for 10 years. You have to go to Block Island. You can get the ferry out of Point Judith a part of Narragansett, Rhode Island. Google Block Island Ferry for more information. You can also Google Block Island, Rhode Island to find out more about the beautiful island. If you want to stay on Block Island, The Narragansett Inn is a quaint old Inn. Family run since the 1800s, no frills, just beautiful with a wrap around porch right on the water and best spot on the island for a sunset.

You can also get a ferry to Block Island from Orient Point, Long Island, NY.

where in rhode island? we just did a night trip, meaning spent one night and two days, stayed at newport, RI. stayed at the marriott by the harbor. it was about 185 after taxes. we booked a room with two double beds (2 adults and two kids), when we got there we asked for a harbour view they didn't have one available, instead upgraded us to concierge level. it was awesome, access to their 'lounge' which served breakfast, and desserts and drinks all day. we really had nothing planned, just wanted to get away for an night, and after that night i wished we had stayed days. just wonderful place. everything was walking distance from the hotel. a park right in the middle of the downtown area, let kids play there for a while, we shopped and dined, and had coffee and ice cream outside looking at the harbor and ships. so i really recommend that place. we plan on going back this summer for a few days stay. on the way back, we did mystic, CT, not worth the hype. nothing about it was quaint or beautiful or serene.
btw, we traveled from long island, hence took the ferry at orient point. kids loved being on the ferry. took us 1hr 20 min total.
