Trichomonas Vs. Yeast Infections and Bacterial Vaginosis

Have any of you ever been diagnosed with trichomonas? I was told it was STI (a sexually transmitted infection). I am three months pregnant and I went for my check up not too long ago. The doctor's medical assistant told me that I had trichomonas. I looked up the symptoms and I don't think I match the criteria for this. I did some research and I found that millions of women are misdiagnosed with trichomonas. Have you ever been misdiagnosed with this before?? I did the metrogel like the doctor said which can also treat bacterial vaginosis just in case he is right but I am having serious doubts. My husband went to get tested and he came back totally clean but as a precaution they gave him the metro pills.

What can I do next?

You may be right, M.. I remember being told I had it a long time ago, too, but I wasn't 'sleeping around', so I wasn't sure *how* I might have gotten it. (I don't remember having any symptoms, either; was in the dr's office for something else.) I've been tested for it since, and the tests always come up negative, so I'm guessing if I did actually have it, the meds worked! What may have happened was just what you said...a bacterial infection that made the tricho test come up "positive". Ask your doctor about it the next time you see him, and talk to him about your findings. Also, be sure and let him know where you found your info (website name, etc.) I'm sure he'll appreciate the info you share. (My doctors do most of the time!)

Good Luck with your pregnancy, and CONGRATULATIONS!

I would ask the doctor to check again, and if he came up with the same conclusion, I would get a second oppinion. Drs just make mistakes sometimes and may be prone to assume certain things over others. When my husband and I first got married, I came up with an abnormality during a pap. My dr was concerned it may be an std or cancer... She did tests, everything came back negative. Sometimes wierd things just go on with our bodies. Good luck! Congrats!!

Go get a second opinion. Years ago I was told by a doctor that I had a STD. I was devistated but did all the medicine and nothing. The doctor insisted this was it. Four months this went on. Finally my gut said something was not right. Went to another doctor who said I Did NOT have a STD. Lots and lots of tests later we found out I was allergic to the combination of shampoo and body soap I was using. Changed brands and all things went away. If your gut is telling you that something is wrong - LISTEN TO IT!

I too with my first husband and my second pregnancy was diagnosed with trichamoniasis. I was told almost the exact same thing you were and of course I was devestated at the thought of how I could've contracted it.
I'm not going to re-hash the curcumstances but I will say this: my husband(at the time) was checked and came back clean and treated anyway, however; in my case my husband had left me for 3 days and went gambling with some guy friends. So now that it's been about 9 years later I think it is very possible that mine was sexually transmitted and I also believe that we as humans can sometimes be carriers of certain diseases or infections and not actually have them ourselves.
I know I'm not much help considering when that particular child turned 4 that particular husband left me for a good friend of mine. I'm just saying that look into your own personal circumstances and don't be an idiot like I was!

P.S. I hope you get much better responses from the other mothers because this is not the time you need to be worrying about this type of thing in your life.

I do know that men carry things we get and it never shows up on them. I had it once too but there was fooling around with other people then. Separations and so forth. So keep an eye out for your hubby. I never dreamed my two husbands would both leave me for someone else. G. W

First of all...........trust your gut. You know your husband and how your relationship is going. You do not need to be worried about your husband leaving you right now. Your hormones are going crazy being pregnant.

It can be as simple as an allergy. When you are pregnant weird things happen to your body. Get another opinion and relax.

Yes, I also was diagnosed with trich. My husband did have an affair so I went to get checked and my doctor said I did have it and went on the med's, but the odd thing is my husband and his girlfriend got checked and neither of them have it. Now how is that? We were married for 8 years and I never had an affair the entire 8 yrs....how can I have this and he doesn't and yes we were having sex and he was sleeping with both of us for a while. I am so confused!!

Did your provider do a speculum exam and look under the microscope at the specimen? The only way to know for sure if you had trichomonas would be to see the trichomonads moving around on the microscope. Did you have any discharge with a smell? Usually with trich, you have itching and some discharge. With BV, there is also the same symptoms. With yeast, you usually have white cottage cheese looking discharge. Hope this helps.
