My 3 yr old daughter has had her second ear infection. After 10 days of antibiotic it has not totally cleared up. We had her ears rechecked on day 8 of the antibiotic and they were a lot better, but she still had fluid. She complains her ear still hurts a little. Has anyone else had this issue. What did you do?

What can I do next?

Chiropractic! I had it done with my daughter when she had one (even when she didn't), and i've seen at least ten other kids that it helped too. Definitely try it before even considering tubes! There are some homeopathic remedes that will help and are safe to take with antibiotics.

Yes, what Kimberly said. But, in my experience with my little one, I was told there were only 3 types of antibiotics to give and the doctor gave her all three. After that it was tube time. But yes, keep the sinus' clear.

Yes, I suggest little noses nasal spray, it is just saline water no meds. See during an ear infection the tube that drain the ears clog. And all that fluids sticks behind her ears and causes pressure which will in turn create an ear ache. The spray will thin the clogs out of her ears and allow them to drain which will relieve that pain. It can also help prevent tubes later by keeping them clear. She may need antibiotics again but a different kind. She may respond to another one better. Use a humidifier also to keep her sinuses clear cause that can also create an ear infection. Good Luck and I hope she feel better

Yes, use a vaporizer using warm steam, set in a place where she cannot reach it.

Chiropractor Chiropractor Chiropractor!

That has been our first line of treatment each time our kids have had an ear infection! The doc said our daughter had a really bad double ear infection one time and gave us antibiotics but we went straight to the chiro and got adjusted and when we went back for a recheck the doc said, "Her ears look better, finish the medicine, it's really working well!" SHE NEVER GOT ANY MEDICINE! That was the last time I filled a prescription for an ear infection!

This has worked for us EVERY TIME! We take our kids in whenever they start getting sick, pulling on their ears, say their neck hurts, or start having trouble sleeping at night. ONE ADJUSTMENT has fixed the problem almost every time! Sometimes we'll bring them in for a second, but that is rare.

Good luck>!

Once you have an ear infection, a decongestant is NOT what you want to use. You need the fluid / mucus to flow so her ear passages can clear and that means an expectorant. Keep her fluids up, a humidifier is good, use a bulb syringe or a netti pot to rinse her nose with saline solution, a little heat can make an achy ear feel much better. She's a bit young for a heating pad. Maybe you could get some of those air activated heat packs (for backs or shoulders - they last about 8 hours or so) and hold one next to her ear with a head band for awhile. The Dr probably will not recommend ear tubes if she's only had 2 infections in 3 years.
