My husband coaches hockey and we will be traveling a lot this winter. We have a one month old son and I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for traveling as far as what we should bring and such. Also, he is a formula fed baby and I was wondering how that works. If I should make a bunch of bottles and get a cooler for them, or make them as we go. This is all new to me. Any advice would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

K.-My little one (10 months) is formula fed too. I found it VERY helpful to carry a thermos of water so that I didn't have to find a place to warm up a bottle. Also-there are single packets of formula ( I think they come in 4 oz packets) that are also very helpful-however, they are a bit more expensive. If you have a bottle warmer-those are nice for hotels but again, the thermos was a lot easier for us. But I would make bottles as you go, less to pack and carry. Thermos, formula packets ( or you can get those formula divider containers) and a bottle and you are good to go!
good luck!

Depends on your child, but both of mine preferred cool bottles, it started when my daughter was an infant and had a cold, the peditrician recommended cold bottles to help it soothe her throat. Well, after that it was cooler time! It was so nice to make a batch of bottles in the morning, put them in the fridge and pack them in a cooler if we went out and not worry about heating it!
I say lot's of diapers, wipes, change of clothes, snuggly blanket and yes, bottles are premade. That way you know the quality of water you put in it and aren't stuck somewhere without access to clean/fresh water. Better too as then you can give your son a bottle the second he is hungry and have it on hand. I got the stand up coolers, cooler packs, you can fit three or four bottles in there at a time. They keep them cool for up to four or five hours.
Also make sure if you are flying, he is sucking on take off and landing to prevent pressure build up in his ear drum.

I have traveled with my son since he was 2 months. If your flying with the new restrictions save your self some time and hassel by measuring the formula in the bottle. Do NOT add water until your through the security check. I dont know how many bottles I was forced to throw out because of the limit on liquids!
Also the airline attendants are more than happy to heat up a bottle for you!

I found when traveling with my children, at least when doing the airplane travel, that it was nice to have the premade bottles of formula (liquid) with me. They will let you take them through security (just present them when you are going through even if they are more then 3 oz) That way if you are on the flight, but can't get to water for some reason you have formula ready to go.

I would also recommend taking his car seat to the gate and asking if it is a full flight. Most times if the flight is not full, they will allow you to have a seat for your child. The seat has to be near the window, but it is nice to have the extra seat.

Good luck! I found traveling with my children in the first 6-8 months was the easiest! Make sure to do a bottle/pacifier on take off and landing!

We've traveled with our kids since they we're babies and I'm so glad we did - they are great travelers!!

When mine were babies, I'd bring a couple of bottled waters (so I alsways had some!) and the formula. I'd mix as needed. You don't waste any that way by not using them. It's to expensive! Also, we didn't need to heat them up, room temp worked for our little ones, so no need for an extra cooler.

If yours needs them warmed, you can buy a warmer that plugs into the car lighter pretty inexpensively.

I hope that helps! I'm glad to hear you are able to travel with them - it will be fun and so nice for you to be able to spend that time with your whole family!

God Bless-
