My husband and I will be traveling to Buffalo on Saturday and we have a 10week old baby. Every time I have been on a flight with a baby, they cry most of the flight. I am wondering if anyone has any tips on how to keep my daughter happy or sleeping on the plane.

What can I do next?

how funny! i just returned from a trip to buffalo with my husband and now 11 week old daughter! i spoke with my doctor before hand and he told me to give her a bottle before the flight that way she sleeps most of the way. i decided not to take his advice and do what i found to work best. i did this with my daughter 4 years ago, and now with my youngest daughter... i nursed her on the way up, this helped with the ears popping... she doesn't take a pacifier, so i am out of luck with that one. she was perfectly fine both on the trip there and back. my suggestion is to try to time your feeding that day so that is co-incides with take off! good luck, and dress warm.... it was starting to get chilly up there!

I am a flight attendant, and I've dealt with this often with passengers and travelling with my own babies. Alot of the times when babies cry its because of the air pressure, especially during take off and the decent (last 30 min), when the cabin pressure is changing to match the altitude. You have probably heard this before, giving them a bottle or pacifier, the swollowing relieves the pressure, especially during decent when the air pressure adjusts slower. I also used to give my daughter a little baby tylenol before takeoff. And make sure not to travel if they have a little cold it can rupture their eardrum. Bring little snacks and things to keep her happy. as far as pre boarding goes if your flying an airline that doesnt have assigned seats, its best to take advantage of the preboard option, who wants to fold up a stroller in a jetway when other people are trying to board, chaos! PLus preboarding allows your baby to get acclimated to the airplane environment early before everyone gets on. Ive turned taking off into a game with my daughter,Saying to her "isnt this fun!" she gets excited instead of scared.Hope I've helped a little. Good luck!

WELL DEPENDING WHAT TIME IS YOUR FLIGHT..
TRY TO KEEP HER FROM TAKING HER NAP..
ALSO BEFORE THE PLAIN ACTUALLY GOES UP, WHILE ITS MOVING...GIVE HER THE BOTTLE..THERE LITTLE EARS TEND TO POP, WHICH CAUSES PAIN FOR THEM..THAT COULD BE WHY SHES CRYING ALOT!
TRY IT..

HAVE A SAFE TRIP=)

Hello, my son was a 1 mo. old when we flew to Michigan. We fed him before the flight and he slept the whole way. I also had a bottle ready on the flight just in case he decided to wake up. I held him the whole time and kept rocking him, so I think with me rocking him and the vibration from the plane is why he slept so good. I hope this helps. Good Luck and have a safe flight=-)
P.S. I also had a few toys handy, just in case=-)

Babies often cry on flights because of the change in pressure and their not being able to cope. Most of the times, if you offer something for them to suck on, i.e. breast, bottle, or passifier, you help them to regulate the pressure in their ears. (Same idea for adults/children when they yawn or chew gum or suck on candy.) In addition, you could bring something to entertain your baby, like reading a book, bringing a rattle or something else that will distract your baby. Try not to disrupt the "routine" as much as possible and keep it very simple when getting on the plane. If you're taking up the entire row with your family, then I have never been a fan of boarding early. Why spend any more time cooped up in small quarters than you have to? As long as you know that your family takes up the entire row and as long as you have assigned seats, wait until almost the last folks are boarding. Take your stroller all the way up to the end of the gangway and if you're the last to go in, your stroller will be the first to come out of the belly of the plane.

Have a safe trip.

Hi E., does she have a passy or just use one when she is on a plane the first part of the flight make sure she has something to suck on to help with her ears, this is a very uncomfortable feeling for babies and can make them fussy for a while.
