I was in Naperville and Aurora this past weekend house hunting. I really like the Oak Hurst neighborhood in Aurora. Can anyone tell me the approximate commute time to get to and from the Rt. 59 train station (the express train time) from this neighborhood? Thanks!
C.

I live right around there but across Eola Rd. It takes me approximately 10 minutes to get there considering traffic and the lights. Assuming you don't have a yearly pass (there is like a 7 year wait list) the daily parking spots fill FAST! If you don't grab a train that leaves before 7 AM you are either scrambling for a spot or you are in for a bit of a hike from the far reaches of the parking lot or across the street at Babies R Us. You have to leave yourself enough time to find a parking space. Once you do it for a while you will know the lastest train you can take to get to park where you like. Check out the metra train schedule for the Burlington Northern Sante Fe line (BNSF) www.metrarail.com. In the morning they usually have express trains that leave approx. every 20 minutes. The commute home express starts at 5 pm and has 4 trains that go to Rt. 59 ending at 6:10 after that you get the semi express to Downers Grove. Adds about 10 minutes more to your ride. Again, the biggest headache with Rt. 59 is parking and the lack of it. If you can get a ride to the train station and get picked up that would take a big worry away. Unfortunately Rt. 59 is the busiest stop in all of Metra. I hope that helps.

Hi Cara,
I live in Oakhurst and it takes me 10 min. to get there and about 5-10 to park. My rule is leave the house at the time of the previous train because they are 20 minutes apart. So if I'm taking the 6:57 train, I leave home at 6:37 which was the time of the previous train. Takes about 10 minutes home with the hardest part getting out of the train station. Recommend you only take New York or McCoy to get over the train tracks because if you go on Liberty you can get stuck. Hope you move here, I've been living here 6 years.

I'm pretty sure it's super close(like within 5 or so minutes if I'm thinking of the right neighborhood). The only thing is that there is a waiting list of a few years for a parking spot at the train station. However, there is probably a Pace Bus route in the neighborhood(free transportation).

Hi Cara, we live in townhomes just next to Oakhurst. My husband commutes via the Rte. 59 station and allows a minimum of 15 minutes for travel time, parking, and paying for parking. I think he generally shoots to leave 20 minutes before the train just to make sure he has plenty of time. Depending on which part of Oakhurst you are looking to live, you may take Liberty St., which has a train intersection, and can lose you time. You may also take New York St., which has a RR overpass.

Feel free to message me if you have any other questions about this area. Good luck, Oakhurst is a great neighborhood!

I would allow 10 min each way.
We moved from Chicago to Eola/95th about 4 yrs ago. I allow 20 min daily. There is a lot of traffic but you would be North of the school so maybe not so bad.

Before Sep 2008 the parking lot was brutal on the Aurora side (closer to Liberty). I had to be at the train by 7:15 to guarntee a spot. it is a 40 min train ride and I didn't have to be at work until 9 so it sucked. Parking tickets are close to $50. I think with the econmy the riders might be down but it it goes back to the way it was a few years ago you willeither want to be an early riser or get your hands on a monthly parking pass. I have been on the waiting list since July 2004 and I am still waiting.. It is $2/day to park and the monthly is 139.05. The train itself isn't bad. I sleep, read or play on my computer. My husband also likes the fact that there are many expresses in the morning and evening so it helps if someone works OT.
Also getting out of the parking lot in the evening takes some time. I am not sure how many people ride a train but it takes an extra 5-15 min at night to get out of the parking lot.
