My family reunion is this Saturday. I was wondering how I could transport it hot for an hour? Is it possible? I'm making it in a crockpot and will probably plug it back in and set it at "Keep Warm" when we get there. Suggestions or is this a bad idea? Thanks!
wrap it in a moving blanket or 2 layers of beach towel. I used to use a Rubbermaid storage tub for transportation, but now I have a crockpot with a lid which clamps down....no more worries!
they have plugs for the car where u can put your normal wall outlet plugs... ide plug it in the car.. put in a secure position so it doesnt fall and put a towel or something underneath and then it will be hot and ready to go.
I wouldn't worry about transporting a hot dish for an hour. If you had said five hours, that would be a problem. But for just an hour, here's what I would do. Cook the dish in the crockpot and plan for it to be done right when you're leaving your house. Unplug it right before you get into the car and place it in the trunk with several towels around the crockpot to keep the heat in. Then as soon as you arrive, bring it out and set to "keep warm". Crockpots are well insulated so the food will still be hot (or at least warm) when you arrive.
Once it's finished cooking, food will stay warm for a lot longer than an hour in a closed crockpot. Cook it right before you leave, then pack it in a cardboard box or something without a lot of extra room. You could also put some kitchen towels around it to insulate it more. Happy eating!
Yes if you are really worried about it, go buy a power inverter. They plug into the ciggy lighter and have different power wattage (thats my hubbys department not mine as to what is needed to power what..like a laptop, dvd player, or something like a crockpot, without causing issues to the car, etc).
You can get better ones at a place like Radio Shack (and good advice) or go to Walmart. I see them online for about the $30 range but know ours was more than that at Radio Shack.
We have had ours for many many years (12 maybe?) and use it every single time we travel in the car on several yearly snowmobile trips, our recent college tours for DD, trips 2-3 hours north to the cabin every summer, etc for laptops and dvd players, etc. Its actually pretty handy to have if you do even a few car trips! I highly recommend having one!
I have used ours several times for my "famous" Fire in the Hole chip dip I bring to family events in the crock pot. At Christmas we go to my nieces house which is about 75 minutes away in good weather and I want it ready to eat when we arrive. If it cools for too long it gets a gunky "layer" on top, so we pop the inverter in and plug it into there, snap the crock pot lid on and additionally secure the CP in Rubbermaid box with an old towel stuffing it in so it doesn't slip about.

get those crockpot liners, then when you are ready to go, pull the top of the liner together and crimp it shut so there are no spills. when you get there, uncrimp it, put the lid on and you are in business.
I'm sure it will be fine. Unplug it as you're walking out the door and wrap it up in a towel, then stick it in a cooler. It should stay nice and warm :)
I don't suppose you have a crock pot like mine where the lid clamps shut. Greatest thing every invented because even if it tips nothing comes out. Anyway I just plug it in before I leave so the vessel is hot and the little feet stay cool so you can just set it in the back and it is fine. We have made it through a four hour drive and it was still hot.
Reynolds makes crock pot liners as Robyn R describes. They make cleanup a breeze. Once cooked, close up the top of the liner and clamp shut. Then wrap crock pot in towels and place in sturdy box (tape bottom for extra support) with little to no room for movement. Enjoy!
