Transferring from a Swing to Crib for Sleeping?

My 11 week old has always slept in a swing. We are trying desperately to get him to sleep in his crib. I'll rock him or hold him until he falls asleep and then lay him down in the crib. After 20 or 30 mins he wakes up again, but falls instantly back asleep as soon as I pick him up. I try putting him back down again, but he just wakes up again. I've tried propping him up in a travel bassinet that was placed in his crib, playing soothing sounds/ music, come in put my hand on his chest and lat him cry it out, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Have you tried swaddling him? Some babies really like the firmer pressure they get from swaddling, and that is why he likes the swing.

it will take a day or so, but you need to just keep on putting him back down. he will get the hang of it. Some overtired crying may be involved, but just sway, pat the butt or back, and swoosh.....Their little brains can't do three things, so overwhelming them with three things usually calms them.

now is the time to do it. They are transitioning to more adult like sleep, so now is the time to get baby use to the crib. Just be really mindful of those yawns. Second yawn means they will be over tired really soon! At this age, they really can't stay awake longer than 1.5 hours, so after an hour start watching.

He needs to be trained to go to sleep on his own.

Lay him down when he is very sleepy, but not yet asleep and let him fuss himself to sleep. If he is constantly being rocked or held in order to sleep he will never learn to go to sleep without that. Everyone wakes up briefly throughout the night, we adjust ourselves and go right back to sleep. Little ones have to learn the skill of soothing themselves to sleep, the earlier the better.

Good Luck,

Because of the fear of SIDS (laying down only on back, no snugglies or pillows, etc.) the crib really isn't a very comfy place for a baby to be, is it?
I think that's why we ended up co sleeping half the night. Oh, and my third one slept in her infant car seat for at least six months!
You do what you need to do to get through the night, and what is actually wrong about the baby sleeping in the swing?
Good luck!!!

This may sound crazy, but I used to get IN the crib with my baby and nurse him there. Almost broke the crib but he started tolerating it better. But we ended up cosleeping. What you really have to do, easier said than done, is lay him down awake. It just doesn't work to put them in fast asleep, they will need you help every single time they wake up. I am going through the same thing with my second. Try having him get used to the crib while he's awake first, then try putting him in sleepy and laying your hands on him till he falls asleep. Also, white noise machine and swaddling. I love the Woombie brand zip up swaddlers.
