My 2 1/2 year old boy loves trains and other activities and I would like to get him a table. What table do you recommend? Would like one that works for more than just trains, but that would be a lot of fun with different trains. I am hoping to get a versatile table because we have NO ROOM!

Michael got this for his 2nd birthday and absolutely loves it! He plays with it every day. We don't have much room either and actually use it with the cover on for a coffee table in the living room and the trains and cars store inside. http://www.step2.com/product.cfm?product_id=1354

I just recommended Nilo activity/train tables to another mamasource poster recently. They have all sorts of additions you can add, like lego plates, extensions for track off the table, etc. Furniture-grade quality, American owned and manufactured. www.nilotoys.com

My daughter LOVES trains. My parents got her the Imaginarium Classic Train Table with Roundhouse Wooden Train Set from Toys R Us last Christmas and she has played with it non stop. All you need to buy is extra trains and you are set. It is on sale for $129.99.

If you don't mind a scratch or nick, check out The Land of Nod Outlet store (recently moved to Naperville). While they have lots of different versions, we went with an activity table with adjustable legs: for toddlers, for youth, and then desk-size. We got one at the outlet with a few scratches for $19.00! I added the storage bins which tuck everything neatly underneath and the rolling paper dispenser on the side. The edges aren't raised like traditional train tables but it's the right (and adjustable) size with plenty of space for playing, coloring, even eating snacks. We couldn't be happier.

Hi M.,
I would try to get both, because they get bored easily. The more options kids have, the better.

Happy Holidays!
