Do any stores offer a trade-in program for car seats?

I need to do something with my (expensive) Britax car seat when I buy a booster.

Thanks.

So What Happened?

Toys r us and Babies r Us no longer have the trade in events (in this area anyway - I called).

Maybe I can give it to a friend with a new baby.

Thanks.

Most places won't take them because they could have been in an accident and damaged.

Personally, I gave my infant seat to a close friend. She was comfortable using it because she knows me, and knows the seat is in great shape. And I was happy to give it to her (free) because I knew otherwise it was going in the trash.

Babies R Us usually does it twice a year, but I don't remember them doing it this summer when they usually do. I hope they haven't stopped it. If they still do it, it usually in January. You get a 25% off coupon.

Babies R us does too, check their website as I'm not sure if it's a year round thing or only on occasion.

Booster seats are cheap unless you're looking for one with a five point harness.

If your Britax has a while before it expires, you may be better off selling it on Craigslist. I wish I would have sold mine before it expired.

Boosters can be over $200. You can browse online. The ones in the store are often less. But some have some great features. There is a ton to choose from! All price ranges, really.

Most Britax carseats expire after 6 years. Do not give to a friend if yours will expire while the child is in it. It can be fatal and the plastic breaks down.

No one will take it. You're not supposed to re-use car seats. They could have been in an accident or they could have been in severe weather than can cause cracking or other issues.

Most boosters start around $15 and go up. I don't think any booster I've ever seen has been more expensive than $35 and that was because it had a back and cup holders.

ETA

I was curious about the Toys R Us thing so I googled it and am adding in 2 links.

The one that is ontheir FB site they say they do not plan on having them in the future.

The other link says they had the last one this past January-February.

They took a bunch of different items and gave the person a coupon to use that day. The list of things that could NOT be purchased an the coupon used was detailed. The coupon was also not for the same amount on various brands too.

Plus you had to use the coupon right then, it was no good once you left the building.

Quite interesting to say the least.

Babies R Us usually has a trade-in event once or twice a year. I'm sure if you search, you could find when it is.
