Toothpaste Suggestions Please!

I'm trying to switch my almost 3 year old from baby toothpaste to kid toothpaste (he can spit now!). However, I've tried two kinds of kid toothpaste and he says that both 'burn'. Does anyone have any suggestions for kid toothpaste that doesn't have that bite to it?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all of your advice. Turns out the Colgate Watermelon toothpaste was just what he needed! He doesn't complain about it burning like he did with the orange burst or bubble gum flavored kid's toothpastes! Oh, and I picked up some of the kid's fluoride rinse too and he loves to 'rinse and spit'. Tooth brushing time is so much more enjoyable! Thanks again!!!

Hi C.~
My 3 1/2 yr old DD & 18 mo old B/G Twins LOVE Colgate 2-in-1 Strawberry Toothpaste (it also contains Mouthwash). I have tasted it & it does taste pretty yummy. I just like being around when they brush cause my whole bathroom smells good!

I was going through the same situation with my 3 year old son. I tried all different brands of toothpaste. The dentist suggested I use "squigle" I had never heard of it before. He recommended it because it is is free of irritating ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulfate, which plays a role in bad breath, cancker sores, gum disease and more.It also has an ingredient called xylitel in addition to the floride which helps fight cavities. It is a bit pricey but, it has been working fine for my son. No more complaints about the toothpaste being to hot. Hope this will help.

My boys have been using Crest for kids since they were around that age. They have never complained about it. Good Luck.

My 5 yr old daughter and 3 yr old twins also use the Colgate Strawberry and Watermelon flavors and have not complained about it burning. They have complained with other toothpastes though, so I am assuming this one doesn't bother them as much.

Hi C.,
I can totally relate to your situtation. My son is 4; we have yet to find a toothpaste that he does not complain-that it burns his mouth. We even tried the Tom's all natural strawberry and that did not work. I was going to try the Jason organic/herbal toothpaste with aloe next. I even discussed this with my sons dentist; he said we do not have to use toothpaste, just so long as we do brush his teeth. So what I have been doing, is mixing the Pink bubblegum flavored ACT Rinse, with the water in his rinse cup (sometimes I add a very small drop of the crest mouthwash in it as well).....I dip the toothbrush in the water, brush until he needs to spit, rinse the tootthbrush, dip it again and so on. He has had no complaints with this approach as of yet. I know it sounds like a big production but for now it works for us. Our big challange is getting him to actually let me brush all of his teeth. He will not sit still or open his mouth cooperativley. If you find something before I do; please let me know? Good Luck!

The colgate watermelon one is a favortie for my kids. The mint flavored ones are going to give a sensation like it's burning

My little girl complains often about the toothpaste being too hot. We've tried tons of kinds and seem to always go back to Crest Sensitive. It is solid white and has only a slight taste/flavoring. Even the special KIDS formula is too hot for her liking. For her the more plain the better.

We shop for these kind of things using an on-line kind of catalog store called Melaleuca. They have a kid's toothpaste that has a berry flavor, which kids like (and I have never heard of my kids saying anything about it burning...) and they ask daily for their Vitabears (vitamins). I also like this store because they have cleaning products which don't have any harsh chemicals (and with little ones, we need to ensure our home environment is safe.) If you need more information, let me know and I would be happy to share.

Crest Sparkle toothpaste is what my 2 older girls liked. My middle girl is 9 1/2 and still likes using it. I have a 22 month old that likes it as well. She can't spit yet but I use so little that it don't hurt her by any means. The dentist said the most important thing is she's not eating it and herteeth are still getting clean.

My kids say the same thing about "adult" toothpaste, but the kind that I find they love is the kids Aquafresh in the tall pump like tube. Kids Crest that they give out at the dentist office tastes good to them too. But beware if your three year old is like mine, he'll soon want to brush ALL the time, which is good, but after the fourth time that day, it'll loose it's cuteness!(LOL). Good luck.

My son likes the "Sponge bob" toothpaste. I'm not sure of the brand but it is in a blue tube. I used one other kind and he said that it burned, so we went together and he picked out the Sponge bob, and he has used it for the past 2 years without a problem.

If you didn't already, try one that is bubblegum flavored. They seem to be the least likely to have the burning sensation
